i cannot get my galaxy note 3 to work with the hdmi adapter

i have tried to hook it up on sony bravo and a visio TV and all i get is no signal'

Hello. If you have a cable / adapter which has the mini usb connection for your phone and terminates in a HDMI plug to your tv - unfortunately I don't think Samsung / Android is designed to give a direct output like that, for reasons I once knew and can be better explained by others. :)

You need an MHL adapter (with it's own power connection) to feed to your TV. The Note 3 supports MHL output, some mid range and older devices do not.

If you have your tv connected to a home wifi network, the excellent Chromecast dongle is another option to consider.

I second using Chromecast. You don't even need an internet connection (except to set up the device the first time, but you can do that anywhere, it doesn't have to be on your set). Then all you need is a wifi router or access point to connect your Chromecast and phone to. (The TV doesn't have to have wifi capability.) No wires, full mirroring of the screen.
