I had to do a hard reset to my Samsung Note 3 because of SW corruption. I took a copy of all the files and folders to my PC (through windows normal copy) but I missed to take a backup of contacts/SMS through Kies.

Knowing that I never synced with any online account, is there a way to restore contacts/sms from the backup files? I'm not sure where to find them.

Welcome to Android Central! No, sorry--you're out of luck. Contacts saved to the local Phone account are stored in a SQLite database that is not accessible to the user for file manipulation, and I think the same goes for SMS messages. That database would've been wiped out after the reset. You should strongly consider saving all of your contacts to your Google account, because then if something happens to the phone, your contacts are all safe in the cloud.
