...apply a tempered glass screen protector to it, however, doing so will effectively raise my screen up slighty due to the thickness of the glass. Will this hinder my use of the fingerprint functions?
I bought the Tempered Glass protector from Verizon and have found no issues with it on the touch screen. As for the "finger print function", no issue there either.

I received and installed the Bear Motion glass screen protector today. It does have the halo although it is minimal. I'm content for now but will purchase something else later on if they get one to actually fit the note 4. Even with it being cut nicely around everything there is simply no fitting the curved edges of the screen. I'll keep following the manufactures and the reviews with hope that somebody gets it right.

I have been so tied up with learning the Android language and just general stuff that has nothing to do with the N4 that I did not really put two things together that might be interesting to some of you here.

As has already been noted here, the Zerolemon tempered glass screen protector does not cover out to the edges of the N4 screen only covering the flat portions of the screen. We all know the Zerolemon has a halo. While Zerolemon does not offer a spec at least not one that I have seen, I think this must be one of the 4mm thick glass protectors.

I mentioned early on that the Zerolemon does not have a cutout for the selfie camera. Frankly, not much of an issue in my case. However what I did not notice until just today was that the halo goes right through the location for the camera lens. Now I don't know of any other protector that gives us the opportunity to look at this issue from the perspective of the camera lens. However some of you might be happy to know that I can see no evidence of the halo when looking through the selfie camera lens. I have looked really hard and while the halo is very small on the zerolemon even to the extent that at some points, the halo is a broken line, I can surely see it cross through the camera lens when I am looking at the entire screen. But try as I might, I cannot see anything of that halo when activating the selfie camera and looking through the camera lens.

We are stuck with this generation of tempered glass screen protectors and for all I know, it may never get better than it is as far as further product development is concerned. But it might just be that being able to see the halo when looking at the entire screen has really left a bad taste in our mouths. The actual practical impact of the halo may be far less than we anticipate.

Now at least for me, I would not want to spend upwards of $40-$50 for a protector and even have a halo of little practical impact. But many of us are paying less than $15 for these things. They may just not be as bad as we anticipate.

I am not by the way suggesting people go out and buy a Zerolemon tempered glass protector. However the fact that their protector has no cutout for the selfie camera lens is what has made it possible for me to at least offer you a comment that might help you with this stuff. I for one would hate for somebody to pass on what is relatively inexpensive protection and then end up with a scratched display screen because they anticipated a really bad performance experience due to the effect from the halo. Heck I cannot even say with any confidence that the halo from a different protector would in fact be more telling than the one from the Zerolemon.

I will say this though. I would watch for dust building up on the edge of the screen protector. I would not want to have to use some solution to get real grunge off of that edge. But I would be watchful for the dust and do something to get rid of it while it is just dry dust. Maybe even canned air with a nozzle will blow it harmlessly away before it mixes with some moisture and hardens along that edge. I don't think it takes much of an effort to just get the dust off that edge at least once per week.

I don't get it. Why glass? Why not plastic which is thinner and lighter? Why wrap a glass with a glass?

Well don't hold me to it but the simple answer would hardness and clarity. The plastic protectors have earned a reputation for not being as clear and that is probably the biggest reason. You have cellphone makes pushing the envelope on screen resolution, brightness and overall clarity. Fewer and fewer people want to degrade that performance to the level of a film protector I think. Then there is hardness. But I think the primary issue is clarity. Somebody will probably chime in with a better answer than that.

So the clarity I'm getting from a Spigen plastic screen protector is just a figment of my imagination? I'm not quite sure its true.

Sorry I was trying not to be so long winded with that one. I don't think they are less clear brand new out of their box. I do think the clarity of the film protectors degrade over time while the tempered glass do not. A good way to think about it would be the plastic lenses on your car headlights. What happens to them over time? They get cloudy. Grease from your fingers, the cleaners you use to get the grease off the film etc etc...it all works to degrade the clarity of the film faster than if it were glass just like glass lenses over your headlights might crack but they would not cloud over like plastic.

You could always just change the film protector when it became something you did not like looking through. I am not sure how comfortable I would be with making multiple changes. I don't know what might be going on right up against the glass on the backside of any of these protectors.

Been following this thread for awhile. Had to join to send a reply. I ordered the Supershieldz off amazon for like $7-8 shipped. Am super happy, no halo, covers the visible screen surface. Not to the edges but does the job. Very happy. No bubbles very easy install.

Try to look at some youtube stuff to give yourself the best shot at the installation. I know....some of those youtubes are painful to watch. Many amateurish vids there. But there are plenty there. So if the one you are watching looks lousy...don't waste your time. Pause it..find another....see if it is any better.

You really want to make sure your screen is clean before you apply the protector and you want to make sure not to get anything on the side of the protector that goes onto the screen before you apply it (fingerprints!!!).

Before you do the install just make sure to have everything lined up to go bang...bang ...bang....done. The more time the stuff lays around, the more time for stuff to get on the surfaces.

So I went ahead to Amazon to get one and I thought selecting would be easy. Thinking of cases, I thought "All I got to do is look for Spigen and filter out the rest". Not so simple with screen protectors. It's 7pm in the office and I am too tired to read 19 pages of forums. Would you please be so kind to give me the summary of this thread. What glass on Amazon should I buy so I could go home. Thanks

Oh Boy,,,hopefully somebody will join in so that it is not just me recommending.

Anyway that Bear Motion is getting good reviews. I like the way it looks in photos. The price is nice. I like the cutouts. I think they have done a pretty darned good job. If it was there to buy when I was looking, I likely would have gone that way myself.

Don't you find the fingerprints on the Bear Motion really bad? The one I put on liked fingerprints more than the FBI.

SuperShieldz repels fingerprints for me, I will use it until the holy grail is discovered.

I have the Bear Motion I like the cutout expecially at top bottom is ok but if it was a little longer my Defender would have covered it. Same with both sides just a little wider the Defender would have covered it now I have a gap between the edge of protector and edge of Defender. Very easy to install but does have the Halo.

I have not been able to see one of the Bear Motion protectors in the flesh. That is why I was hoping somebody else would chime in. It was not even available when I bought my protector. So honestly, I can't comment on fingerprints. Does it not have the same layers as the other popular tempered glass protectors?....maybe not!

the Bear Motion one is not really any better than the other pictures I've seen with halos online. it has 1/16 to 3/32 halo all around. less at the top and bottom than the sides. I think it's better than not having anything but in my opinion it's not ideal. I haven't noticed it being a finger print magnet like others have mentioned. I think it keeps the prints off just fine, but we'll see if that continues to hold true.

I, too, pull the trigger and ordered supershieldz. Its true...there are small lines of halo to the sides of my screen and around the button but not enough to bother me. When screen is power on, you DO NOT see it.

Chuck is correct! Supershieldz best advantage is the fingerprints are a non issue!

I just pitched my Zybbia and put on the new Supershieldz. While the protector is centered in the screen, there is a .75mm halo on left and .25mm halo on right. So there is a variance in either the screen or the protector. Their so small though its negligible for now. Home button, top and bottom are halo free. It's not ideal as the whole glass isn't covered but way better than the huge halo I had. I'll post some pics of my result when I can.
