I assumed he meant the top and bottom white panels that are visible to me. If not, then I wasted about 4 minutes!

I honestly thought he meant to apply the effect to the face. I am a graphic artist and restore photos in my own business. Applying a sepia effect to the white borders made no sense to me considering that it would just look yellow. So I just left it alone.
It seems there is no good solution to the image with such a strong border between the white and black. But you obviously aced it.
