- Having a similar issue with group texing on the Note 4 I just switched to from an iphone. In some cases it works fine, but at times when I respond to a group text it goes to each person individually, like I only responded to them. I called at&t and the response I got was group texting only works on iphones. The people in the groups have different brands including Apple, samsung and HTC and theirs all work fine. I've turned off imessage and had my number removed. Also checked all the settings in the new phone. Any other thoughts?Denverdroid likes this.10-29-2014 12:30 PMLike 1

- I don't think the poster is talking about replying...he is not being included in the group getting the message in the first place if I understand him correctly.
I just got off the phone with Apple asking about this issue. I have mac computers but iPhone I am coming out of is my only Apple Mobile device that I can or have used to text. So they said that if I have mac computers I should not officially deactivate my phone number on imessage. So I guess I will give this a whirl and see what happens. I thought it interesting that one poster says he did officially deactivate his imessage account and he is still having issues.jpr likes this.10-29-2014 07:21 PMLike 1 - I thought that box was checked, but I will keep a close eye on it. I was in a group last night (actually a continued conversation in the group i had problems with before, so a good test) and didn't have any problems, but I kept an eye on that box to make sure it was checked every time. I will post again if the problem comes back. Thanks for the input!10-30-2014 12:16 PMLike 0
- I have also had issues with this. I switched from an iPhone 5S, to the Note 4. I can send group messages but I don't get everyone's reply. For example in a group message to my dad and sister, I only got my sisters messages but not my dads. If I'm unable to fix this issues I think I'll switch back to Apple.10-31-2014 08:20 PMLike 0
- I had the same issue as everyone but I was able to find a solution. I originally had the iPhone 5S, what I did to fix this issue was make "Hangouts" my default messaging app and I started receiving group messages again with no problem!!Tony Nguyen586 likes this.10-31-2014 08:34 PMLike 1
- My issue was originally inbound sms that didn't stay in group..once I updated with tmobile latest update it fixed it. I never had any issues outbound group sms to apple iphones. So to reconfirm no issues with my Tmobile note 4 with group sms to or from apple iphones.

I asked him why? he said because Google wants to all of his users use hangout... i am about to return my note 4 and go back to iPhone. this is not acceptable12-04-2014 03:48 PMLike 0

The Note 4 absolutely supports group MMS. The stock app does it reasonably well, Textra, Chomp and other 3rd party apps support it even more. It doesn't always cooperate with iMessage (iPhones) but that is not a flaw of the Note 4 or Android, that is iOS not willing to be compatible with other platforms.
If your phone isn't supporting Group MMS even after changing the settings to allow it, I would have someone at T-Mo Tech support look at the back side of your account provisioning, do a factory reset of your phone, or exchange it out.
It is absolutely, completely false that Samsung has made these phones not work with group MMS so that Google can get everyone to over onto hangouts. Samsung has no dog in that fight, and it would make their devices look bad, not Google. No way they're going to touch that with a 10 foot pole.12-04-2014 04:03 PMLike 0 - The Note 4 absolutely supports group MMS. .12-04-2014 04:42 PMLike 0 - So I'm using Textra right now and like the OP, I'm getting the group messages individually or if I receive a group message & respond, only one person in the group will receive my response. The other people that I'm messaging are using iPhones, Android or Blackberries. Is this something that I have to deal with or where can I find the option in Textra to receive group MMS because I can't find it. Thanks!
Anyway...for Textra:
Textra-->Settings-->Use MMS for Group Chats
If you're on T-Mo there are a couple of other things you can try under the "Go here if MMS isn't working" section.
Good luck!
Just realize that there may be times where it just doesn't work, and it isn't because of your phone. iOS doesn't play nice in the sandbox.tasha_c likes this.12-04-2014 04:50 PMLike 1 -
I switched from an iphone 4 to a note 4 recently and my friends have iphones and in the group chat, they text something and I can't receive the text. They say they sent it in i message then as a regular text message and I still don't get it. Please help.12-26-2014 09:25 PMLike 0 - I'm having some simular issues ugh
Apparently I'm unable to receive text messages from my dad or my stepmom, both have Iphones. My dad can call me but I've had problems calling him (he says he never received calls that I made to his phone). But I get messages from my mom and my best friend apparently, both have non-iphones. So I think its a problem relating to Iphones somehow.

I'll see if I can find one for you.
Here is a link that should do what I failed to describe.

- I'm having the same issue. Had iphones for the last 6 years, but decided to give android a crack with the Note 4. I can send messages as a group message, but my friends with iphones receive it as individual texts (even though my inbox has classified it as a group message). Replies therefore only come from the individuals too.
I have signed out of imessage and receive normal SMS texts without issue. I have tried the stock app, GoSMS, textra, handcent and chomp...all without success. Really annoying (and inconvenient)!
Posted via the Android Central App02-10-2015 07:13 AMLike 0 - Hi. I'm scrolling the web desperately trying to find a solution to the exact problem mentioned above. Just switched from iPhone 6 to Note 4. I unregistered my number from Apple two days ago. I even called and they verified my phone number is no long tied to iMessage. I'm receiving individual messages from iOS users but all the iMessage group chats I was in - I send messages and the other folks receive them, but I dont receive any of their responses back. This is totally unacceptable. Are you saying that eventually (potentially up to 45 days), I'll start receiving messages from the group chat again?
I love the Note 4, but I'm about to jump ship and return back to my iPhone if there is no solution. The Note 4 is wonderful device, but communicating with my friends is more important to me.
What I don't understand is why I'm receiving individual SMS's from iPhone users, but cannot receive messages in the group chat? If my number is no longer tied to iMessage, when someone sends a message to our group chat, why doesn't it push the message through to me as SMS (just like any other time an iPhone sends to non-iPhone).
I am miles beyond frustrated with this issue. Anyone?02-16-2015 12:31 AMLike 0 - Hi. I'm scrolling the web desperately trying to find a solution to the exact problem mentioned above. Same exact thing been happening to me. I get individuals back, but not in the group setting. Been wondering this myself.02-16-2015 03:23 PMLike 0 - I spoke with Apple again today. The rep claimed that completely unregistering your number from the iMessage servers can take over a week - depending on how many numbers are lined up ahead of you in the exodus queue.
She said that once the number is entirely wiped from the server, we will start receiving messages in those old group chats again.
I'm not sure if I buy it. I don't understand how my number can be 'kinda' unregistered where I can receive individual texts from iOS users but texts to our group chat won't come through.02-17-2015 01:08 AMLike 0 - Update: called back again and this time was transfered up to the top - to an extremely nice senior specialist. He took my number and spent about an hour talking to other Apple engineers. Essentially Apple has no idea how to fix this or why it's doing it. We exchanged emails and he asked that if I somehow figure it out, to please let him know so he can inform Apple - and vice versa if he figures it out.
Doing my own troubleshooting, I had one friend in our group chat wipe out the chat and start over. I started receiving messages in the group chat from her. The other person in the group chat did not delete the chat on her end and her messages are still not coming through to me.
It appears the only way to get yourself back into the group chats is to have each person involved delete the chat. Which is totally unreasonable to ask of them - years of conversations and pictures gone.
So officially from the top of Apple's engineering dept: they don't know why nor do they have a solution. And they don't understand why this is happening.

After deleting the conversation & starting new, now getting ALL messages from multiple people / conversations.
Sent by my Note 4 on Tapatalk02-22-2015 07:06 PMLike 0 - I found the same thing as "Jay_Kuykendall" stated. I too was suffering from the same problem, but I found that newly created group messages work but none of my older group dialogs that were originally started on my iPhone do anymore. Of course I cant confer for what happens after a week or two like some claim is a processing time for the complete imessage un-registering process to take. It could all of a sudden kick in, I only de-registered my phone about 5 days ago. I would imagine for those who are coming from the note 3, perhaps try creating a new group message and see if that fixes the problem. Hope this helps. At least with this, it isn't the pain that it would cause for others to have to turn off imessage altogether just because of us new to note 4er's.03-07-2015 07:14 PMLike 0
- Have same issue. Swapped out iPhone 5 for Samsumg Galaxy Note 4. All other (5) family members still with iPhones. Called Apple Support to deactivate iMessage account. Can send and receive all individual SMS messages and can send group MMS to all family members but am not included on group MMS threads (conversations). Attempted switching from stock Samsung message service to Textra (which claims works with all iPhone messaging services) but problem persists. Have exhausted all troubleshooting avenues. Would appreciate any advice. Inability to participate in group (i.e. family) MMS messages would be a deal breaker and perhaps necessitate return to Apple device. Perish the thought!05-04-2015 08:54 PMLike 0
- Very strange. I was just in a group message today with 3 other people all using iPhone. I saw every message. I came from an iPhone just a couple weeks ago. I have switched from Android to iPhone and back a lot of times and have had issues here and there but not in a while. This is on Apple though. Not Samsung or Android.
