Note 4 Questions from a newbie

I figured it would be fine to have a thread for all of us new people to Android phones to ask questions....

On iPhone I could swipe up and it would bring a search box and I could start typing in an app and it would pull it up instead of me having to scroll through my pages and folders. Is that an option on the Note 4?

Can you see notifications from the lock screen and reply?

Is there a way to make sure Gmail isn't consonantly refreshing for new mail?

Do I need to do anything to my SD card before I insert it or am I good to go?

I am sure I will have more.

Thanks!

Must microSD cards come preformatted and ready to go. You can get tools to format it in the phone. Or it may in fact do that for you automatically, as I have never plugged in an unformatted one.
If you format them in a PC, make sure you use the proper format for the size card that you have.

Thanks all.

I had my SD card in and it says pics will be saved, but it doesn't seem like they are saving to SD card. Is there a way to check?

In your camera settings make sure "media card" is selected under the storage location setting. You can double check that they are storing on your card by opening your "my files" app, select sd card, DCIM, camera - your picture files should be there.

Re: Questions from a newbie

And that will allow just texts to be replied in lockscreen? What about other notifications?

Thanks!

Using Note4 stock.

I know with iPhone I can see all my notifications in lockscreen, was just curious if I could with Note. Not a huge deal either way.

When you're on the lock screen, drag the notification bar down and all notifications will show. Then you can tap on each one to open in it's respective app to reply.

Will they show up on my lock screen or I just have to check notification center to see if I have any?

Only texts will show up on your lockscreen. All notifications will appear at the top on the notification tray. Then just pull down to view.

My phone doesn't respond to "Okay Google" anymore and I am pretty sure I have it on.

Also I do not get badges for some apps like Hangouts (they were called badges on iOS, not sure on Android)

Wait what? You chose Always and then went and cleared it? If so, it will keep showing.

When you choose Just Noe, it will use that app just for that one instance.

When you choose Always, it will always open that app when you click on a picture.

The S Pen quick menu is dynamic and relative to where on the page you use it. If the text you highlight is near the top of the screen for example, the menu will appear in the upper middle part of the screen, and so on.

In the picture you uploaded, notice how above the writing that is highlighted, there is a picture, while the page is scrolled down. So the menu opened up in the middle.

Basically, the menu will show where there is more space depending on what part of the page you highlight and how much screen space is above or below the highlighted part. Test it out yourself.

And no problem, always happy to help new Android users, especially Samsung Galaxy users.
