Switch your horizontal position so that the camera button is on the left! ("Samsung" on the right)
That will keep your left thumb off the volume key - which is something I repeatedly do because I need to get a good grip on the phone to shoot steadily. Your on screen icons will also reverse.

But mine doesn't zoom. It takes the photo. I must've changed that setting somehow.
In the camera settings you can set the volume buttons to either take a picture, zoom or record video.
I found that. And more. Thanks. There's a lot in there. I didn't know you could do all that with the video. Gonna have fun with the dogs tomorrow.
I don't use volume keys for zoom anyways, I set them to shutter. Taking pics with the volume key ever since Note2.
I keep mine for zoom.. with 4K you can zoom in a little any not worry about quality.
