I'm sure everyone has been enjoying their new phones or shall I say data devices!

The big question is how does the signal strength compare to other phones such as the Droid Maxx, S5, Note 3, etc? I'm hoping for some dBm comparisons if possible.

I am kind of disappointed with my strength at home. I get 97 dbm on my Verizon note 4 on lte but I get 76 to 78 dbm on my LG g3 on lte at home. When I compared my g3 to a store display note 4 they were only 3 dbm different.

I find the N4 a little better than the S4 and the N4 similar to the G3. You might have something wrong, since that is too big of a dBm difference. It is out of any tolerance for comparison. A 30 point delta is not a proportional relationship and suggests an anomaly for whatever reason.

Sprint LTE is lighting fast in Baltimore. I watched a 2 hour movie yesterday with not 1 buffer...Playstore downloads in 5-10 seconds (non games)

The note 4 is much stronger than the note 3 especially in weaker areas in terms of speed and usability. Dbm is around the same for the same network. With that said the iPhone 6 plus is better in my usage at least on Verizon. It can choose the network better (700MHz or xlte). Dbm has limited meaning to me because I would rather have a higher dbm but much faster speeds than a much lower dbm but crap speeds. And dbm can really only be comparable on the same network (for verizon - 700MHz, xlte, evdo, rtt). Even with the same dbm and network, one phone can still have substantially better network connectivity.

Mine sucks on Verizon. I'm always in the -90's to -105 dbm. I had much better on my Note 3 on AT&T. I wish I never switched back. On AT&T I was getting in the -70's to -90's dBm. That said, I've never had a dropped call or anything yet. Although Download speeds don't seem that great to me. Been happy with the phone otherwise.

After using for over a week, my reception is actually better than the average-for-me S4 was.

I am in Kentucky, so if anyone would notice weak reception, my area is probably a valid sample.

Your comparing apples to oranges. What your saying is AT&T has better signal in your area, has nothing to do with the phone.

Yes, that is true. I take my Note 4 out and about too, and not much better signal everywhere I go. So to me, you are saying Verizon doesn't have good coverage everywhere around me. It's not just at home that I get those numbers. It's like that in Neighboring towns when I checked. So I can't believe it's just Verizon. You are correct though, I got those lousy numbers when I was on Verizon Before with my last N2, S3, and Droid X, but not everywhere I went. So it is the carrier. As long as I don't have dropped calls, I'm going to stop Complaining. I refuse to pay what AT&T wants for the phone and the phone is more important to me right now than the signal strength. I was just answering the OP's Question.

How does one read/understand signal strength when I'm at home? My carrier, VzW (B&M Store) is 2 miles down the road. Here's a couple of screenshots with the Preferred Network Mode selected to Global and LTE/CDMA.

    Or it simply doesn't matter?

Question, will a sim card affect signal strength? Is an ISIS sim card better than the regular micro sim card?
