ok this is the first time I've switched it on but damn it picks up what I say perfectly.

question is though will it affect battery life by running in the background?

Mostly everyone I know disables S-Voice from the minute they pick up their phones and choose to use Google Now instead. That being said, if you use Google's Always Listening feature (Or S-Voice's for that matter), yeah, it'll drain your battery faster because your phone is essentially always awake, listening to everything it picks up until in detects the hot word to turn voice recognition on (OK Google or Hey Galaxy, depending on what you use).

What I do, since I don't need the phone to just wake up with my voice, is disable S-Voice (well, not disable it, just prevent it from running when I double tap the home button) and just use Google Now by long-pressing on the home button. Once there, you can tap the microphone or just say OK Google.

I disabled S Voice immediately. A few days later I attempted to do something and it said that I had to have S voice enabled for it to work for some reason. I don't remember what it was at the moment, but I reactivated S voice. But I NEVER use it as there's no reason for it when Google Now works so perfectly.

Go into the Google app in your app drawer.

    The one with this icon:

anybody else disabled s voice and use ok Google-google-now-iphone-ipad-logo-analie-cruz-tech-editor-divas-dorks.png

Scroll to the bottom (or long press recent apps button) and go into the Settings menu. Toggle Off Google Now.

I disabled S Voice but can't for the life of me figure out how to turn on OK Google or whatever it's called. I'm thinking removing the Google task bar widget from my home screen did something because it worked before then.
