Chrome doesn't fair well against the stock broser in speed and flash support... Firefox has an add on add blocker plus which effectively blocks adds...
    Thanks

You can only block ads with a browser that supports that type of add-on (stock Samsung browser labeled "Internet" does not). Otherwise you would have to be rooted and use an app like AdAway.

I'm looking for the best ad blocker but can't seem to find an app that keeps working. I've rooted my Note 4, I have Ad Block Plus but some times it seems to work and some times it doesn't. I bought AndGuard but it's the same, some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's like Android is adapting to both ad blocking technics! On Adblock plus, I unchecked allow some ads, which I think is freaking stupid! It's the reason I have an ad blocker, to block freakin ads!

I want an ad free phone but is it even possible with Google? I don't want too see their ads and if that is the pennical of Android, or the ultimate the highest Android experience is ads, then screw that! I want an ad free phone. Is that too much to ask for a phone I paid $854 USD for?

I still use AdAway (with only the MVPS blocking hosts file - updated once a month) on both my rooted Note 2 and OG Note 10.1 (both still on Jelly Bean) and never see ads. But haven't been able to use it yet on the Note 4 since my Verizon retail version still doesn't have root access yet. It should work on a rooted Note 4 with Kit Kat though as long as the app is able to modify the system hosts file (which has all the entries to block most known ad networks).

You can get AdAway directly from the dev here: https://sufficientlysecure.org/index.php/adaway/ since Google has banned ad blocking apps like that from the Playstore a while ago.

Also, if you're using the Chrome browser with the "Reduce data usage" setting enabled (Settings > Bandwidth Management > Reduce data usage), you'll probably still see ads because it forces info to go through Google's servers.

    This.

The presence of ads isn't the OS's fault, it's the applications or sites the user installs or visits. Developers need to support their work somehow, and advertising is an effective way to do it. Bypass advertising and eventually the app developer has to adjust advertising functionality to get through the bypass and restore revenue. We all know this, I know that I'm preaching to the choir here.

With Adaway (root) one can block ads by redirecting DNS requests via changes to the hosts file. Initially the Adaway app will modify the hosts file based on commonly available lists of known ad sites. If needed one can monitor DNS requests to determine what sites to ad to the list if ads are still coming through.

I installed Adaway. So far so good. I found it funny that there were ads on the page I downloaded the app.
I know the ads are built into some apps but it's also Google' billion dollar business. So I imagine if these apps start cutting into their business, they will act in their best interest.

Adaway requires root, just making sure people know.
