I started out 1st by complaining delayed/no notifications on my gmail app...Now i realized my ebay app which has been doing the same thing...Sometimes delayed sometimes NO notification..This is FRUSTRATING! Also @ times, my whtsapp notifications are also been delayed.

So i tried to do some research, and i think for some reasons my notifications are getting delayed...And it's happening on Wifi when the phone is sleep..I checked to make sure wifi is on during sleep in the settings, and IT IS ON!!! Apparently, it's more of a OS problem than Samsung itself, and I have seen ppl writing some kind of codes to fix it, I don't know how to enter those codes in my phone.

So What do you guys recommend to fixing this delayed notification crap? I know this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...shfixer.noroot

What do you guys make of this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...oid.gcmWifiFix
This has something to do with Google's own push notification, can some 1 explain this app to me!

Fire away any other suggestions you guys have please...I really need to FIX this matter!

My first question is are you connected to Google servers? This is something I miss about the dual colored WiFi icon. Blue meant you device was communicating with Google. If you look in your accounts under settings, did Gmail sync recently?

It should have given you a blank screen. (Okay, to be fair, it might be better if I said "I'm not surprised you got a blank screen.") It was written for a Motorola Droid Razr 2 years ago. There is a really good chance it wasn't written to work on other devices.

As far as the issue you're having...it doesn't sound like an issue with your phone, Google, or any of your apps.

I would suspect your home router is the culprit. Chances are it needs a firmware update or a revision to its settings to work with the WiFi protocols on the Note 4.

the thing is I just keep manually refreshing my email app cuz I have been having this issue for sometime now. So when I check gmail syn under the account sync settings, it always shows the most recent times i synced..

I have read somewhere that there is a wifi-optimization option that you can turn off...i don't see tht option on Note 4...

and oh btw the "smart switch" option under Advanced wifi is OFF!

So yes I actually noticed this same issue when i had a T-mobile S2 and i had a custom ROM installed on it..syncing would never work on wifi.
After doing research on this situation with my note 4, i did come across some articles suggesting what you are suggesting...tht the router has some kind of Firewall setting tht my note 4 can't adjust too...but the question is when i initially set up my note 4, it was working fine...i have been noticing this issue since the last 2 weeks i would say...oh and btw i had a note 3 before this and i think i had the same issue.

SO.....what do you suggest as a fix to this? Call my ISP and ask them for some kind of a firmware update on my router?

Look up the make and model number of the router online. It should give you a website for the manufacturer. You can probably download the firmware.

If you have a modem and wireless router from your provider, though, you might want to consider buying a third party modem (modern only) and a separate wireless router.

A lot of times, the newer aftermarket modems/routers have better security measures baked into the firmware.

Seems like some complicated steps to take there...especially when you are the only Android user in the household and every 1 else is a Apple fan! goona be though to explain but let's see wht i can do!

It's easy to explain. They're using an older WiFi codec with their iPhones. Your Android device is using the latest ones available.

Just because iOS doesn't make much of an effort to stay current with technology doesn't mean that other companies don't.

I'm amused at how people react to these things today. 5 years ago, whenever someone got a new PC/Laptop, it was totally different than their old one, and getting updated drivers/firmware was part of the process. The fact that the newer drivers/OS offered additional functionality and increased performance was a cool thing and people liked knowing they had better technology for their efforts.

Today, people are pissed if their new technology doesn't want to work with their 3 year old iPhone (or the 5 year old codec their brand new iPhone is using) even though the new technology is better. But somehow it is the new technology's fault and it is bad. At least until 3 years from now when the latest Apple commercial comes out to tell people how they have "innovated" this new technology and we should all thank them for it and pay double the rest of the market to start using it now that they've found a way to put an apple logo on it.

I will take the steps and let you know how it worked out for me..

Talked to my ISP and they said everything is fine on their end...They said the router automatically upgrades to the latest firmware, so we don't have to do anything...And I know my router and modem aren't that old anyway.
So kinda out of options here...really not interested in purchasing a separate modem/router for just this issue!

Ah i guess I will have to live with it!

Curious, are you connected to LTE when this problem occurs?
    https://productforums.google.com/for...us/3gVF5Dm-yG0

While my initial thought is a wireless router config problem, you should try some additional troubleshooting. Have you tried another location nearby, that would likely eliminate the wireless router? Set a Google or other DNS server address? Have you recorded your router logs to see where the delay is coming from? This problem would drive me nuts til it was figured out. ;-)

No this problem occurs when I am on ONLY on my home WiFi...It doesn't occur when I am on 4G/LTE
May be I should go to a Starbucks nearby, connect to their wifi and see if the problem occurs...

And honestly I wouldn't consider my self that tech savy..lol I don't know how to set DNS server addresses, and record router logs..would appreciate it if you would briefly explain it to me how tht can be done!

Please understand that if you called your ISP's 800 number, they are going to tell you everything is fine from their end. If you have service and they can ping your modem, as far as they are concerned, "everything is fine."

Now that you have indicated you are using an ISP provided modem/router/wifi combo unit, I definitely don't rule it out as an issue.

You need to test it out on other wifi networks and see if you are having the same problem.

If not, I would point right back to the WiFi router.

While you are connected to WiFi, is the mobile network still on? Understood that you are using WiFi, but what is described in the thread attached above is an issue with push notifications when WiFi is connected and mobile network is on/connected to LTE.
Unlikely, but an easy test. Shut off mobile networks, and connect with only WiFi on.

2nd test... Find a relative/friends/the lonely neighbor who will let you connect to their WiFi...and eliminate the wireless config/firmware/hardware jssue.
Hopefully we don't have to run a tcpdump on the router traffic. ;-)

Switched to another Router...and problem was solved!
Turns out my AT&T router @ home was the culprit...luckily, I had a spare router, so I just hooked it up, and Walaah...everything started working just fine!
