I've disabled Google+ and my phone is still doing this.

Is everyone just happily living with this crap?

The Contacts issue hasn't happened to me in awhile. (Knocks on wood) The Google Play Services issue is happening several times a day and it's getting annoying.

I'm having a whole list of "unexpectedly stop working" msgs. I have a replacement end route. It gradually became worse as the days went by. The next thing I knew, my Note 4 is restarting randomly. What a pain in the *** reconfiguring a new ph.

Damn, this isn't sounding good. I've been getting more and more "unfortunately blah blah has stopped working" messages and they're becoming more frequent. I definitely don't want to go through the new phone route.

I have the same issue. I have been ignoring it for some time. Had a minute and thought I would see if I was the only one. Nope. Samsung Galaxy S5, Updated 3/5/15 to G900VVRU1BOA8. I just checked and I needed a system update again...did it...G900VVRU1BOC4....let's see if that fixes it.

I don't have a samsung, however, disabling Google+ on both my Razr HD and Elipsis 8 tablet has stopped the contacts app from crashing.

I get this error on occasion. I haven't disabled Google+ but I have made sure not to have "keep contacts updated" selected in it's settings. Clearing data in "contacts storage" seems to stop the error when it occurs, with the downside of having to go back into the contacts app to adjust my settings. I don't think it's Google+. I think it might be related to having contacts sync with Google. I have that setting disabled because, it seems to cause battery drain. But I do turn it on once every couple of weeks to make sure my contacts are up to date, and I feel like that's when the issue occurs for me.

Just updated to lollipop today, and did a factory reset. So far no problems.. so hopefully the update or the reset fixed it

I tried the other options on here but they didn't work. I did manage to fix it, or so it seems by going to Settings>apps>contacts>clear defaults>disable this didn't affect my ability to use my contacts though because my phone also has an app called zte_contacts. So far so good, my phone was doing this on every call and now nothing.

I've had the same issue on a Galaxy S5 when I open from the lock screen or come out of an app it will say the contacts have stopped working. After updating to lollipop I don't see that error but I have noticed that my native email app doesn't download email unless I manually press he sync button.

Looking through different menus I have found a settin that says sync is disabled for all my email accounts.

    Thoughts?

Is everyone who replied in this thread rooted?
This is my first reply, but mine is not rooted. I've been getting the same message for two months now on my Samsung S5 (TMobile). I've been reading on this thread, and have already tried the fixes mentioned within this thread. Still getting the errors non stop throughout the day, totally unrelated to making telephone calls.

Same here. I've been getting the irritating pop up, but my contacts still worked. Now they don't work, I can't call out, see who's calls I've missed, etc. I've restarted my phone several times to no avail. HELP!!!

I've tried everything...yes, everything. My phone is a month old, S6 Edge...Multiple factory resets, clear partition, clear cache, deleting/disabling rogue apps, several chat sessions with both Verizon and Samsung reps, uninstalling updates, disabling Google+, changing time format, etc, etc, etc.

Ran across the link above while chatting with a Verizon rep...IT WORKED! I deleted all of my Visual Voice Mail, but wish I would have deleted them one at a time and tried for the error after each. Not sure if this is a problem with Visual Voice Mail, Voice Mail, Contacts, or one particular voice mail that Contacts has a problem with. Don't really care at this point because I was turning this phone back in for an iPhone 6s in a couple of hours.

Hope this helps someone else with this unbelievably annoying error and malfunction...

******* PLEASE READ, POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSE ********

Regarding this issue: Unfortunately contacts has stopped working

If you are getting this message/notification, please check the Application Manager>All>Phone and see if there are multiple instances of the Phone app. Then check the details to see if they are the exact same version. This issue seems to be present after the Lollipop upgrade over multiple phone manufacturers/models.

I have a suspicion that the Lollipop upgrade may be producing multiple instances of the Phone app that is causing this issue. I have no fix at this point short of reimage/repair (based on carrier).

If you can verify that you have multiple instances of the Phone app in Application Manager, please reply to this thread.

    Thank you.
