You mean the one that comes up when you press and hold the back button? You just bring up the bar, at the bottom of the bar there is an arrow that you touch, then press edit and you'll see a pile of apps that are available to be placed in the side bar. Not all apps can go there, and I'm pretty sure the ones that can go there support multi window function or Popup window function or both

I have a bunch of apps on the phone and none can be added. I don't understand why.

Not every app works with split screen/pop up feature. The app has to be designed for it.

I figured. My note 2 was rooted and I was able to add all the apps. Just don't want to root this one.

scroll the bar up and you will see a dotted arrow at the bottom, touch that and you will get a scroll up that has EDIT on it. This is the edit for that side bar as you call it.

I understand, but like was said in the previous post I can't add all of them. I guess they need to be split screen compatible.

Yup, you're right. When you were rooted you could add any app. But when unrooted, the developer needs to make their app compatible. That's how Samsung designed it.

If you're curious, there's a big list of compatible apps on a website called Mobile Multitasking.
