I see Color Note is not on the list. If you have multiple devices and a memory about as long as a burp it's a must have for to do lists, calendar events, secure protection with notifications of events posted into all your devices notification panels after it auto syncs. I write up my grocery list on my tablet knowing it'll be posted in the pull down bar on my phone when I go to the store and opens to the list to check things off as I go, delete the list on my phone and after it syncs that change to my tablet it's deleted there as well.
I've been using it problem free since the days of froyo and pre tablets, having the sync feature added in after tablets came to be. Free with no ads too.
For a similar app that syncs with my S , with full edit capability on the watch, I use Notes In Gear, also free with no ads

Too many to list. These days there are tons of important things (Google Maps, cloud storage apps, video streaming apps like Netflix, photo editing tools like Aviary, bank deposit apps) that I use sporadically, but when I use them, I really need them. But let's do it this way: Used pretty much every day or close to it:
Evernote
PowerAmp
Kindle for Android
Gmail
Pale Moon Browser (a spin off of Firefox)
Lookout runs in the background
Zinio
Drop Words
Resizeable Calendar Widget syncs to Google Calendar
GTI tasks
I once made jokes about people having lots of apps. I now have so many important ones, I'm shocked how things have evolved.
Did we really make it this deep into the list without Tasker?
Also for me...
Evernote
Nova Prime
Mint Bills
Home Budget
Android Central
Rewards

Anyone else have problems with Lookout using too much CPU, or restarting repeatedly in background (caught by one of my favorite apps: Clean Master)? The only function I don't use on CM is Advanced Junk Finder.

GO Launcher is my favorite launcher by far. UI 5.0 theme is the cleanest for my taste, but they have some really cool ones too.

Seems to work fine to me.
Keep in mind that there are certain functions---like backup--that can be set to run at frequent intervals. Of course, if you're backing up every hour, or the like, you'll find more usage.
