What are the benefits of a OTG cable besides hooking a flash drive to your phone?

Just a few things off the top of my head You can use usb keyboard, mouse, etc. You can also directly connect to another device. You can also use your note 4 to charge another device.

While I have no need for large external storage devices I do find my Dash Micro useful for reading microSD cards. Makes pulling photos off of other cameras like my GoPro easier on my phone or tablet.

So is it worth pick one up for $5 ?

Sounds like you don't have a use for it.
It will just be something you won't have around when you need it, most likely.

I bought a bag of three from eBay a few years back for about $5. One at work, one at home, and one in a travel gadget bag. I've used them a few times. But if I had just one, it likely never would have been where I wanted it, when I needed it.
