Recovery mode question!

This may be a stupid question but I will ask it anyways. I did the lollipop update last week and when I went to put the phone into recovery mode (or whatever its called) to clear the cache the little android guy popped up and it said "installing update" after the wheel spins awhile it shows android man down and says "no command". Again, I have no idea if this is normal or not which is exactly why I'm asking! I'm on verizon BTW.
