First let me say this wasn't intentional. I had a note 4 that I purchased from Craigslist about 2 months ago. Recently, the screen stopped turning on. Its a long story but the warranty was voided. Since I needed a phone, I added a line and got an S6 intending to just pay the ETF on the new line and cancel it. So I put the note 4 on the new line and put the S6 on my primary line. When I called to add insurance, the rep put the insurance on the new line which has the note 4. Did I just luck out and can I file a claim and get this note 4 replaced?

If they insured that phone, then I don't see why not. Only way to find out is to call it in and make a claim.

I probably wouldn't let that get too far. The problem is that if something ultimately happens to the Note 4 and they start looking at the details of the insurance transaction, they might realize the mistake and deny coverage. I would guess that insurance companies would only be willing to insure new or factory refurbished phones. Companies like SquareTrade will insure used phones, but only through specific sites (like eBay).

But maybe this is ok from the insurance company's standpoint. If you want to be totally on the level, give them a call and ask them about this. If it's not valid, better to find out now than later.
