I received the stage fright update on my note 4. Although it's on T-Mobile, I've actually noticed a performance boost. My phone seems to be a lot more spiffy.

Two questions:

1. What version of Lollipop are you on: 5.01, 5.0.2, or 5.1.1? The 5.1.1 could be the reason for your perceived improvement. Just sayin'...
2. If you're not up to 5.1.1 yet, have you run the StageFright Detector yet? I'd be curious if Samsung's patch worked for anyone on versions below 5.1.1. So far I've seen all negatives - that it didn't close the vulnerability unless the OS was 5.1.1.

Thanks

It's still at 5.01. I don't know. I was getting frustrated with the lag. After this update its almost non existent.

Since I couldn't seem to get a definitive answer with proof in this thread or other threads here about whether this update was for Stagefright or not, I have proof it is in fact for Stagefright and DOES fix it on phones on VZW running Lollipop 5.0.1. Screenshots from my Note 4 before and after.

So there is a misconception here that should be addressed. This patch, nor any other to modern devices, will not protect devices from the Stagefright vulnerability. All devices running Android 4.0 or higher are already protected by other mechanisms within Android for all known attacks that this vulnerability has available. What these updates will do, is eliminate the potential of this vulnerability to capitalize on potentially unknown applications that this bug could take on - however there is nothing to indicate that this ever impacted a single device. The number of impacted devices listed in the whitepaper and ensuing response from Google's engineering team was 0.

The devices actually at the highest risk are devices with more than .5 GB RAM running android 2.3.3 to 2.3.7 Gingerbread API level 10 on phones and 3.0 Honeycomb to 3.2.6 (API levels 11 through 13) on Tablets, GoogleTV and other devices with more than 1 GB RAM and are MMS capable (you can imagine this is a tiny number of devices).

Most likely, the update wipes the cache during the update and you are getting the benefit of that.
