When I bring down the notification panel to view my notifications, it locks the screen after a few seconds. I have to click the power button to turn the screen back on again.

Are these notifications coming in when your phone is locked?

The amount of time the screen stays on while it's "locked" is quite short. This amount of time is not customizable in display settings. So, when you are viewing your notifications, the time the screen will stay on is short because the phone is still in lock mode. Unlock your phone first if you want the screen to stay on for the time you specified in display settings.

I have a flip cover on my phone. When I open my cover, the phone unlocks automatically. Then I check my notifications by sliding the panel down. While am either scrolling through the notifications or just looking at the panel, the screen goes black. I then have to push the power button to turn it back on. When it comes back on, the notification panel is still down. I am the one who asked the original question.
