Messages+ Ringtone: how can I get the ringtone I set to play when messages come in?

Messages+ Ringtone

Hello!

I have been using Messages+ as my texting app for some time but just noticed that it does not always notify me with the correct sound. I have checked the settings in the app and it's correct. Under the phone settings, I have a different tone for "notifications" and that isn't even the tone that sounds. Did I just confuse you? Bottom line is the tone that sounds is not the tone I have it set to in the app. Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

I put the notifications on the phone to silent. My ringtone that I have set in the app goes off.
