Can anyone help me figure out why my note 4 screen turns on when I pick it up? It seems to have something to do with it lying on its back. Without touching any buttons the screen will turn on as soon as the phone senses that it has been picked up.

That would be irritating! I don't know of any setting that would cause it to turn on like that. I know if your screen is off, and you pull the S Pen, the screen will turn on. Is your S Pen loose in the phone? If you don't pick up the phone and jiggle the S Pen, does the screen come on?

LOL, maybe you've a very electro magnetic aura.

Could you check in SETTINGS -> DISPLAY AND WALLPAPER if INCREASE TOUCH SENSITIVITY (all the way at the bottom) is turned on? If yes, try to turn it off and see what happens.

There's a setting where if your phone is laying flat and you wave your hand over the sensor while its off it'll turn on I forget what it's called

Funny, I tried air wake several times and it didn't work for me so I didn't think it was the cause. Then I tried it again and it worked. Phone woke up. Weird.

I tried air wake (it was turned off), and the increase touch sensitivity (it was also off). I tried removing the s pen and I still have the same issue. I have tried shaking the phone to see if it's a sensitive button, but it never turns on. It won't do it if I stand it on its side. It seems like it has to be lying on its back or its front.

It's under accessibility and then dexterity and interaction.

One of the suggestions must have worked. Even though the settings were off, I toggled them on and back off. That still didn't fix it, but once I rebooted and cleared the cache it isn't happening anymore. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.
