About a week ago my previousmy problem free Note 4 began lagging sporadically, at times taking 30 seconds between touching something and the action occuring. A few days later it began to completely freeze up in addition to this, and shortly after that it started to reboot itself after freezing. It got to the point where the phone couldn't go 10 minutes without freezing up and restarting. Today it started to randomly restart itself even when it's just sitting on the counter unused, and even more unsettling sometimes when it turns off it won't turn back on until after the battery has been removed and replaced several times. Even with a full battery you can pull the battery, replace it and hold the power button for a minute and it won't turn on. Pull and replace the battery again and still it sits dead. After a few more pulls it will eventually turn on but it's incredibly annoying, and when it does come back on it just locks up again after a few minutes. The phone is running 5.1.1 and has been for a while with no issue prior to this, and hasn't been dropped or damaged in any way.

I've tried deleting every app that didn't come with the phone, I've cleared the cache partition, Lookout and Avast both say the phone is virus free, I've done a factory reset on it twice(once after it started to freeze and reboot and once today), and the problem keeps getting worse. Is there anything else I can try or is the phone itself just toast and needing to be replaced?

Have you tried pulling the SD and Sim out to see if it would help any? If it doesn't make a difference and not even a factory reset fixes the problem, something is seriously wrong with that phone. Last resort is to try to reflash the phone. Your carrier might be able to help you with that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I should have mentioned that I am not using an SD card in the phone and removing the SIM does not help the issue. Although in the last hour it has only reset on me once and hasn't lagged since if that's helpful in diagnosing this issue.

From your description and everything you tried, I didn't recommend Safe Mode as basically a factory reset "wipes" the phone of any user installed apps. Safe Mode basically does the same by "disabling" user installed apps and only allowing Samsung apps to run. You could try Safe Mode, but I don't think it'll help.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your OS is corrupt... beside having a hardware issue. You might consider having the OS reinstalled. If you can't do it yourself, visit your carrier, or perhaps a Bestbuy (if you're in the USA) to see if they can do it for you. Sorry, that's really all I got.
