This is since the Marshmallow update.

I am really puzzled. Used to be the biggest user of battery was the display. I just can't figure why wi-fi is using so much. I thought I read that turning it off (except when I'm in the car, when I turn both it and data off unless I need the data, which I turn on.)

Is there anyway you can show us a screenshot?

Sadly, not. I just recharged the battery. I can add that display usage was only 1%! I can post battery usage statistics the next time I have to recharge.

Attached is a screenshot I just took of my battery usage, with the message that I still had 6 hours of usage left, right after I got a beep telling me to plug in my phone to recharge.

I've changed a setting so that wi-fi is not on when the phone is sleeping. I also turn wi-fi off when I am out of the house. I don't know what other changes I can make to reduce the use of wi-fi, which never was a problem before Marshmallow.Battery Usage: 73% Wi-fi?-screenshot_2016-07-11-17-55-15.jpg

Have you done a cache clear in recovery?

I'm having weird WiFi usage. Mine doesn't necessarily show up in battery stats; however it does keep my device awake longer than it should.

Yes...following these directions from Verizon, but choosing the one to empty the cache, NOT the system reset. Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - Samsung Galaxy Note 4 | Verizon Wireless It's looking more and more that my only alternative is a dreaded system reset.

I just unplugged the battery and turned on wi-fi and will monitor battery drain before I do anything rash.

I'm at a loss for anything else to suggest. Back everything up, make sure contacts are in Google or other cloud service.

If you use Nova, that can help with restoring your homscreen setup.

I have a Samsung Tab S2 which is set up similarly - perhaps I can Smart synch from that?

I am not the only one!
Have been researching this issue and found MANY people are experiencing the wi-fi battery drain - even with wi-fi turned off.

Aside from the wifi issue I read that Marshmallow changes networks to Global and that we ought to turn back to LTE CDMA.

Just returned from reporting the Wifi situation to Verizon and they said Samsung is aware of the problem - so perhaps they will HOPEFULLY issue a fix.

Meanwhile, my husband's Samsung S6 phone, also with Marshmallow (6.0.1) doesn't have the wi-fi drainage problem - so it's probably something about the interaction of Marshmallow and SOME phones. A friend with the Note 4 has reported shorter battery life, as well, but didn't mention what her wi-fi usage is.

yes....two times...after letting the battery nearly empty - down to 3% power - I recharged and the problem has gone away!
I was getting really upset when two friends with Marshmallow updates on their phones didn't have the wi-fi usage problem.

(Reply was posted in wrong place - someone asked if I had done a recovery mode cache empty - and this was a response to him - sorry).
