    Hey guys!

I've recently upgraded from a Galaxy s3 to a Note4. What I've found is happening, is that apps that have previously had their own notification sounds and light colours (Skype, Gmail etc), now all use the default sound and light colour. I'm not sure why this is or how to fix it, google searches have only come up with different 3rd party apps you can use to get custom notifications (Which I have tried and it's just so much messing around and not really working when I don't really want custom sounds or colours, just the ones that the app should be programmed with, or has been programmed with for my previous phone.)
As I said, these notifications individual to the apps, came installed with the apps themselves.

Any help or explanation for this would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! Most apps allow you to choose custom notification tones. Open the app's settings and look for the Notifications option. See if you can choose a custom tone there. Remember that with Marshmallow, the app needs permission to access your files in order to use a custom tone, so if you choose a custom tone but it keeps playing a preinstalled default tone, then go to the App Manager, select the app, tap Permissions, and turn on the permission for files.

    Thanks very much for responding,

All permissions are turned on for the apps but that hasn't changed that it still uses the default message tone. I was hoping turning on the 'App can appear over others' might help, but it is greyed out and I can't switch it on. I've tried looking up solutions however none of those seem to have worked, I don't have any of the listed problem apps, turning all apps off doesn't seem to work and I don't have the side-panel activated. Could this be part of the issue?

Let's narrow things down to Gmail first. If you open Gmail, tap Menu>Settings>[your account]>Inbox Sound>Sound, and then you select one of your custom tones, does it actually play a sample of the tone when you pick it?
