So far what I've read people are talking of syncing, iTunes, Google Music and Cloud access. The whole point of having an Android phone for me is so that it should be straightforward to drag and drop my music from my LAN to my microSD card and my music is instantly accessible when I put the card back in my Samsung GN4. When I go to the Music app instead of nicely categorised, it's a mess and long lists of tunes. I created copies of my music folders at the root of the card as I wasn't sure where to move them to so the phone would display them as I had. Where should they be put on my microSD card to achieve this?

Welcome to Android Central! It doesn't matter where they are, as long as the directory doesn't include a file called ".nomedia" (which instructs the system to ignore any media files in that directory). The phone's media scanner should find any music apps anywhere on the SD card and add them to the Music database. It should also organize them based on each file's embedded ID3 tag information (the standard tag that includes track info like title, artist, album, etc.). If the files lack ID3 tags, then they'll just be listed alphabetically.

If you want the display your music based on the folder hierarchy you create, then you have to use a music player that supports that kind of sorting. PowerAmp and MortPlayer Music are two that I know of.

Some music apps need permission to access the SD card, so go to the App Manager, select the music app, and make sure it has the proper permissions set.
