I think I bought what was an unlocked AT&T Note 4 a year ago. When I found out it was unlocked, I thought I'd be able to get rid of bloatware from AT&T but I couldn't. The screen died and Samsung fixed it for me but I wonder if it's still unlocked. How do you know if a phone is unlocked and unlocked and rooted are completely different, correct?

If you bought an Unlocked AT&T phone, that's referring to it being SIM unlocked, which means it can be used on more carriers than just AT&T.

The other subject is an unlocked bootloader, which is a separate thing from SIM unlocked and is also separate from being rooted.

If Samsung just replaced the screen, then it should not have locked the phone (unless they actually replaced the phone itself).

The simplest way to tell is to insert a SIM from a carrier other than AT&T. If it doesn't pop up an unlock code request and simply works, then you are still unlocked.
