My original Galaxy Note 4 died about a week ago. Sent it back to Samsung for repair. In the meantime, I ordered a refurbished Note 4 and installed my SIM card. I started with the Samsung keyboard and noticed the some keys (especially those located in the upper right - i, o and p keys) did not respond when I tapped them. When I tapped harder, several repeated letters would appear. The condition was horrible when I went to Swype. I installed Gboard and the same thing.

Here's the thing... it only happens in portrait mode, not landscape. Any ideas?

    OS is 6.0.1

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Note 4 Accessories forum to the main Note 4 forum, since the keyboard app isn't considered an accessory.

It's likely that the touchscreen if faulty in that exact location of the screen -- do you notice other problems with touch in that area, in other apps? Another possibility would be a screen protector causing issues -- if you have one on, take it off.

Sorry about the wrong placement of my post, and thanks for correcting it.

You are absolutely correct about the touchscreen. I had been rotating the phone counter clockwise to get to landscape mode. That effectively moved the defective area to the top right portion of the screen and out of the keyboard area. However, when I rotated the screen clockwise from portrait to landscape, the defective area was in the bottom left corner of the screen and within the keyboard area. In this position, I continued to have trouble with the keys that fell within the defective area.

Thanks for helping me diagnose the problem. The company I bought it from said they would give me a refund.

    Hey B. Diddy,

Thought you might find this interesting. I decided to clean the touchscreen protector of my OtterBox - just warm water and dishwashing liquid - and when I reassembled the OtterBox over the phone, the problem worsened! It was all across the keyboard. I took out the s-pen and I couldn't even glide it across the screen!

I removed the phone from the OtterBox and the keyboard worked perfectly - with my finger and with the s-pen. How do you like them apples?

That's good to hear! I'd contact OtterBox and see if they can send you a replacement case/screen protector. I wonder if your screen protector got a little warped, making the contact with the touchscreen surface imperfect.
