Just came from a 6+ to an s6 and I'd say the s6 is great but not on par with touch id. So far I only unlock my phone and there is no option in Google play or a pay app so the functionality is a lot less. Still fantastic though!

Does anyone know if you can set the finger print to delay like you can for other unlock methods? For example, only be required after a 15 minute delay? Also, if you have either trusted bluetooth devices or trusted locations set does that bypass the requirement for the finger print?

Why'd you switch if you don't mind me asking? Happy with the choice?

Oh it was nothing with the iphone; it was a gorgeous device and performed exceptionally. I just wanted something new. I thought I'd give Samsung another chance and this phone tugged at my heartstrings as I loved the 4s so far happy with the phone; not happy with dealing with carrier bull. I'm hoping for a root to come out so I can install a custom rom; my model wasn't supported via ping pong

I have used the fingerprint scanner on the 4 since I got my phone in December, and never have a problem using it. I scanned my index finger and thumb in different positions even at a one handed angle and it works every time.

Yes on both accounts. Have the option to require fingerprint instantly to a delay of 1 hour.
Trusted locations, trusted voice, trusted bluetooth (like watch) etc...

Fantastic, thanks. The all or nothing aspect on the iPhone 6 drives me nuts

They work about the same for me. Both have around the same failure rate I would guess (I am comparing my iPad Air 2 to my S6 which I probably use about the same amount of time) I would say the rounder shape of the iPad's home button is probably better as a scanner and my finger naturally falls in the middle but I find the S6 works well on my side of my thumbs better which is what I use when I am trying to unlock things one handed like. But overall I think they perform similarly I think the S6 though is a bit slower at unlocking but not a big deal. I am curious to see what Android M brings to the table as I had some weird quirkiness with the Smart Lock feature in Lollipop but I just leave that off now.

What can the scanner be used for on the Samsung devices, besides unlocking the phone?

I use it for LastPass too but that is all I use it for so far.

I have both the s6, note 5 and the iPhone 6 and plus. The s6 fingerprint was not as fast as the iPhone 6. But i have to say the note 5 is Slightly faster than the iPhone's fingerprint scanner

I feel like the fingerprint sensor in the Note 5 is much more accurate than the fingerprint scanner in the S6. The fingerprint sensor recognizes my fingerprints every time I use it on the Note 5. I haven't had any problems with them not being read. On the S6, I always had to put my finger on the sensor at least twice before it would unlock. It was a minor inconvenience, but it was still annoying.

Yes you can. You can also set trusted places, like your home (I have my home and my mom's as trusted places) and it won't fingerprint lock and trusted devices like Bluetooth or a watch, etc. Yiu can set a trusted voice so you can use "OK Google" and you can set it to not lock whole carrying it on your body.

I can finally do my own comparison

The sensor is amazing. Both the quickness and accuracy are beyond what I was expecting. Very pleased.

It's pretty darn close, but it is definitely better than the swipe scanner on my Tab S.

The Note is much faster. Do a search on youtube and you will find a video on it. Battle: Iphone vs note 5 finger print

I have both iPhone 6+ and Note 5. My experience is that both can accurately unlocked the phone quickly. But I found finger scan on Android is pretty much useless. It only unlocked the phone. No apps take advantage of the finger scan. It is very useful in iPhone, many apps use it and I really like it. But that comes with down side. I used the TouchID too much and I forgot the actual password. I do hope Android apps will start to make use of it more.

Use same finger and set it up multiple times. Then it will always work.

I feel Samsung finger print scanner has pretty much caught up with touch id, in fact comparing with my 6+ the note 5 finger print scanner unlocks the phone faster....

Could also be the animation though that makes it seems faster.... Oh well.... Just my cuppa tea

I have an iPhone 5s that I use for work. My Note 5's fingerprint sensor works just as well as the iPhone's. They are both vastly superior to the Note 4's.
