You all helped us break this news yesterday — the S Pen in fact can get stuck inside the Note 5 — now it's time to help us clean it up. :p

I wanna hear your suggestions on what Samsung should do to make this right. Recall? (That's worst-case, right?) Warranty swap for those who did the dumb deed? Quick redesign? Something else?

Let's hear your suggestions!

Not sure what they can do. Maybe they can retrofit a sleeve tip that sits inside the SP slot and you can initially seat using the pen?
Gonna be a challenge what ever the solution is.
For me, it's not an issue. After a couple of days, I find myself slotting it without conscious thought in the correct direction.

Just put the S pen the right way.

Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
People need to be more careful when inserting their S-Pen into the phone...i know mistakes happen but I don't see how someone could make that mistake unless they weren't looking

BTW... Is it possible to buy an S-Pen separately?

Sent from my Galaxy Note 5!

Samsung doesnt have to do a thing. Its not there fault. Common sense should tell you to put the pen in the right way. This is getting out of control with this backwards pen stuff....SMH.

There another alternative.(but I doubt Samsung would do it)
Just make a new S-Pen design specifically for the Note 5.
The top clicky part will be slightly larger than the entry hole,
so nobody can insert it the wrong way. It will not sit flush
with the bottom of the Note 5, but that's a necessary evil.

Include the new pen in future shipments of Note 5. Set up
a website so current Note 5 owners can enter their IMEI
number and have the new S-Pen shipped to them.

Problem solved.

Like I said, I don't think Samsung will do this. Kind of reminds
me of when Nintendo was forced to ship out rubber cases and
hand straps for Wii remotes when peopel were smashing their
TV screens while playing Wii games.

Redesign the S pen. Anyone with kids knows this is going to happen. As a mechanical engineer that designs this kind of stuff, I put all the blame on Samsung. If my manager knew I designed a part that could be inserted incorrectly causing permanent damage, I would have been fired. This is like rule 1 for any engineer is to dummy proof your designs. My kids use my S pen to draw pictures and on learning apps on my Note 3 and I'm about 100% positive that even though they are super careful, this would happen. Even if I never did it myself which could happen.

I am just glad to see that Samsung actually warned against this in the manual. Its buyers responsibility to read the manual.

Common sense says you should not spell the word "their" "there". Making a simple error is certainly the user's fault. But consumers can and should expect that simple, predictable, errors will not cause serious damage to their product. People make typos. You made a typo. It is predictable. Even though the error was yours, you would rightfully be upset if it ruined your new Note 5.

Im not really one to let my kids use my phone but sometimes i have to keep my 3 yr entertained if she ever forgot her leappad.
After finding out the pen can go in backwards. She probably won't be using my phone. .

S-pen idea
Retractable string on the clicky part that can attach to a case?

Sent using my gorgeous Korean Phone and its clicky stick...

I'd like to know how many people actually read the owner's manual for
their smartphone.

There over 1 billion Android phones out there(Samsung or otherwise).
I'm willing to bet that only 10 people actually bother to read the owner's
manual.

There's a button with symbol of a headrest on the center dash next
to the emergency flasher triangle button on my old car. After 15 years
and 73,000 miles in the car, I finally found out what it does. Yes, I read
the manual while I got bored while sitting in front of the airport waiting
for somebody. Apparently by pressing the button, I can completely
lower the two rear headrest for better vision out the back window.
Crazy German car designers. :( I guess I should have realized that
on my own years ago, since the button is next to the button that lowers
the power rear window blind. Like I said, I never bother to read
manuals for most thing. :)

You could in the past; I haven't checked recently. I bought a few S Pens with Erasers for my Note II. There were regular replacement S Pens for the Note II, as well.

I think that Samsung should develop a new pen that cannot go into the slot the wrong way. The S Pens on the Note 3 and the Note Pro can't go in backwards.

I'm kind of surprised that this wasn't an issue with the Note 4. I'm also surprised that Samsung went from S Pens that could not go in backwards to ones that could.

You really should not have to read the manual for basic things. A consumer should be able to expect that product like this should not be so easy to break.

For the record, I am NOT, nor have I even been, anti-Samsung. I had, and loved, 2 Galaxy S phones before going to the LG flagships. Now, I'm planning to move back for the Note 5. This is not an issue of Samsung bashing. This is an instance of sloppy design that should be called out.

It doesn't matter how many people read it, as long as Samsung did their part to warn against it. If something is clearly posted in an operating manual, and it is not read or adhered too, that is neglect on the part of the operater. I don't always read manuals, however as an able adult i understand if i mess something up due to this neglect that it is my fault.

Of course i am one of those silly people who believes i am responsible for my own actions.

I really don't care what they do as long as it does not effect the appearance. I don't want to have to suffer as we cater to the lowest common denominator!
