Why is my lock screen doing this?

Little unlock icon before I can use fingerprint scanner.. Just started happening today

That means you have either a trusted palce or device connected. i.e. If your at home and dont want to constantly unlock your phone with fingerprint scanner, the device knows your home so it stays unlocked. You should just have to swipe your finger across the screen to open (dont swipe from the lock up because that will make you need a fingerprint scan). Hope this helps

To check if you have trusted devices or places go to

Settings > Lockscreen and Security > Secure lock settings > Smart Lock

Do you have a gear watch or some other Bluetooth device hooked to it? If not, maybe you have your home set as a trusted place. Mine doesn't make me use my fingerprint when my gear s is attached.
