Have new Note 5 that I wish to stream to a smart TV using my unlimited data plan. Previously with Note 2, just plugged in a cable and hooked into TV. With Note 5 this does not work as it only works wirelessly. I have a wifi network with satellite hookup for internet which I do not want to use due to gig usage.

Therefore I have tried the following:
    1. Chromecast: this does not work because it requires the internet to work.
    2. Microsoft adapter: this does not work because it requires the internet. Tried this which required using screen mirroring and this automatically forces the Note 5 to go to my wifi network hooked to the internet.
    3. Have now purchased a separate router thinking that if I set up a new wifi network then I will be able to get TV to receive my Note 5. Realize that I will also need something on the TV side to receive the signal. Any suggestions for something that will do this without needing the internet? Amazon Fire Stick or other?

Any simple solution would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you're misunderstanding how mirroring works... So let's try to help out.
    1) Your Note 5 CAN output HDMI signal via the USB port, but the MHL cable you have from your Note 2 won't work as Samsung changed the pinout since the Note 3.
    2) Screen Mirroring to your TV either directly to TV if it supports it or using Chromecast, although it uses your WiFi router to do the transmission, it doesn't actually use Internet at all. It's all done locally, device to device, with the router acting as the intermediary. Some Samsung TV's will even let you mirror the screen directly via WiFi Direct, which means your phone and TV don't even have to be connected to the same WiFi network and the communication is done directly device to device with no intermediaries. Again, this uses no Internet data for the mirroring part.

The Chromecast mirroring feature shows up as 'experimental' every time I try to use it, but it works.

My bad! I thought the Note 5 would have MHL 3 support! Guess it didn't make the cut.

Works good. I use the fire stick in my car, after the initial setup was completed.
I had to turn off Dolby sound option on the fire stick, or my sound was garbled.

You make a few interesting points about Chromecast, but think about the following:
If the wifi is on in the Note 5, then it is not using 4g. It appears only one or the other can be on at a time for the phone to draw from or use for connection, that is, 4g or wifi, but both cannot be on at the same time. Therefore if wifi is on, the Note 5 will be pulling from whatever the wifi is drawing in and transmitting and will not allow you to draw in what is being received from 4g as 4g is blocked.

Also, according to Samsung, Wifi Direct does not allow a TV and phone to speak with each other, but instead only a phone and a phone. The only time I can get Wifi Direct to work in a store requires me to put the Note 5 in Airplane Mode and then it can transmit to the TV a video that is already in the phone, but because it is in the Airplane Mode, it cannot utilize 4g to stream a movie via 4g which is blocked. Samsung says that you need a router or something that the Note 5 can use to transmit to the TV.

Does the Firestick have a setting that allows you to drop off of the internet? If it does, then I could see this as a solution.
    Thanks.

My understanding is after setup, it works without Internet.

So does the AllCast dongle, available on Amazon. No external Internet needed. I have unlimited on my phone so I just mirror to my TV via the dongle. In HD. My home wifi is off.

So no wifi or Hotspot needed to mirror the note 5 onto a tv with the screen beam mini 2? For a fact? Because I want purchase something to mirror my phone onto my tv without connecting to a Hotspot or wifi.

Is it the Samsung all cast dongle? And it mirrors the note 5 onto the TV without a wifi or hotspot? Do you know this for a fact?

I tried the Chromecast and set up using my phones Hotspot while on my tablet. You need Internet or wifi to set up, but can't use the same device. Started playing netflix with my phone. Once I turned off the Hotspot, it stopped broadcasting. Couldn't get it to start again. Returned the stick.

Bought a Blu ray player with mirroring. Works perfectly. Make sure the box says it can mirror.

Yes, I know it for a fact, I do it every night and my wifi is OFF, like not plugged in OFF. It is the reason I got the Samsung AllCast after the Chromecast. I'm on metered OTA wifi with 30 gigs a month, can't afford to stream with that. I have unlimited on my phone, hence the use of the AllCast which uses my phone data and not house wifi.

Alot of contradictory and sometimes incorrect information on how to cast and what devices to use with Note 5. I gave up at one point and settled on using my Note 4 where everything worked.

I found I could cast with my Netgear device that worked like the Samsung Allcast dongle-- but it's turns out I was my using my phone data to accomplish that. And I already use over 30 gigs a month. Don't need the overage.

The Samsung rep tells me that Microsoft has a thingie that will do it without wifi for about 50 bucks. That's my next stop tomarrow.

I guess I'm not clear on what you're trying to do. You will either have to use your home wifi or you phone data plan to stream anything from the Internet. If you just want to cast something that's already on your phone e.g. Pictures etc then the AllCast will work fine. But if you're trying to watch a streaming movie, you're going to have to use either home wifi or your phone's data plan with any casting device.

It's stated that the Microsoft Wireless Display adapter does not require internet connection, I have one and when I first set it up I connected to the local network so I have not tried it without being connected to a network. I have only used the Microsoft Wireless Display adapter with my Microsoft Surface Pro 3 so I can't comment whether it works with the Note 5 or how well but doing some searches it seems that some Samsung devices work and some don't.

I have seen several people post that the Amazon Fire Stick works without an internet connection but you do need an internet connection the first time you set it up and pair it http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-W87CUN-...cUvbUpU5174011 (there is also another one with a voice remote for $10 more).

Also the Samsung WI-FI All-Share Cast Hub supposedly does not need an internet connection either. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-All-Sh...cUvbUpU5174011

If you are using this to stream say Netflix to your TV keep in mind that this will be using your Cellular data so if you are not on an unlimited data plan it's probably not a good idea. Out of all of them I think the Amazon Fire Stick is probably the best bang for the buck as you can also install apps on it where as the other two devices are strictly for mirroring. Plus you can turn a non smart TV into a Smart TV with it at home or on travels using a wifi network and not burning through your cellular data. If you don't need the apps portion of the Amazon Fire Stick then I would go with the Samsung WI-FI All-Share Cast Hub as it's a Samsung product and they are likely to play nice with one another where you might encounter hiccups here and there with the other devices.

msndrstood - this is exactly what I want to do. Use the phone displaying on the screen to mirror to the tv using the cellphone data. The location for my use has no WIFI access point. Unlimited data on the cellphone so perfect. A bit confused is the device the Samsung WI-FI All-Share Cast Hub? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-All-Sh...cUvbUpU5194850 as shown here?

Want a device which just plugs in then go to Display - Mirror Screen to the device I believe is how the menu options are. I do not want to use the phone as a hotspot (the hotspot is limited) but streaming to the screen is unlimited and this is what I want to mirror. Many folks have trouble understanding this use.

    Thanks for the help. Dan

Yes, indeed that is the one that I have. If you get it and there are any issues PM me. The first pairing might take like 30 seconds but after that it's less that 10 seconds to connect. I leave mine plugged into the TV all the time and just switch the source on the TV when I want to stream to the TV. I think you'll like it. 😊

Some people do have tvs in their vehicles. I have an 18 wheeler that I have a 36" tv mounted on the side wall. Its nice to wind down at the end of a long day.
