We've had nfc for a while, hit or miss depending on the retailer, handheld (low penetration of nfc phones), user (not well educated on the whole thing), then factor in bank and carrier (as the carriers try to use their monopoly position for network to get in on the payment streams). With Samsung pay (for example), carrier is working more cooperatively since they learned from round 1, banks addressee investing, and with Samsung (and apple ) investing and educating consumers, there factors are better. The magnetic technology that Samsung bought (loop pay) is part PDF the killer app since it works on so many terminals.. That is huge.. Not sure what they paid for it, but the scalability that Samsung is adding here, that the banks are on board with, is the tipping point.

    Thanks.

It's quite a different situation here. Every major bank has NFC chips on their cards, every retailer which has card transactions has NFC transactions. I'd actually be surprised if I ran into a retailer who didn't have that functionality, I think Australia has really embraced contactless payments.

Which is why I'd never consider a phone like a One Plus Two. No NFC is just not acceptable for me. Everything I purchase now is contactless through the phone (if under $100) and having to enter pin for purchases over $100.

Hope it becomes more prevalent in the US. It's really a great convenience.

I also have Navy Federal and it does this to me as well every time I try it. It works just fine with the card though. I have since given up and removed the cards from samsung pay.

it's getting there in the US .. problem of scale both for banks in terms of cards, and retailers in terms of terminals (cost). Late last year a law was passed (I believe) which shifts the liability for fraudulent transactions to the retailer (away from the bank) if the retailer did not use a chip transaction .. this will help. Last time I saw the stats, I believe that by end of this year, we would still have 1/3 of our cards without chips .. and retailers are still rolling out chip readers (which I assume all will be NFC enabled, even if back end isn't). I think 2016 will be very positive movement. Educating everyone is work too .. people sometimes don't even know what their cards have (and it's hard to miss the chip). We aren't using PINs yet either .. hopefully that will come in wave 2. Meanwhile whose of us know know better will keep using our phones to pay (I talked to two people at work this week who had samsung pay capable phones who hadn't even set them up / didn't know .. despite samsung educating people and providing incentives to register.. so I did my part and now they both know .. will take time).

I just tried again an an Army Shoppette. It beeped and immediately went to debit on the card reader. I put in my pin and it said declined. I swiped with my card and it was approved. I have Navy Federal Credit Union.

I always wondered this why do people make any charges with their card and use it as debit with a pin number. I understand gas charges since they may put a hold on your card but using it as a debit and pin will remove the liability from Mastercard or Visa and place it on you and the bank. Hey if someone has a good answer for me I am all ears. Now I find more success with my straight credit cards than my checking account associated cards.

On the shoprette, I'd be surprised if a debit transaction could go through Samsung pay.

On debit in general, it would prevent one from building a credit balance that might be tempting not to pay in full?

I only use my US Bank Debit card (with Visa Logo). It is the only one of my cards that Samsung Pay actually accepts at this time.

Retailers want you to use Debit, which is why it is listed/pushed first. As a retailer I know that many people who could use the visa/MC version of ther card, don't. Why do retailers want you to use debit over credit... Debit.. the bank and or you pay the transaction fee. On credit transactions the retailer pays the fee.

Just to clarify; I can select debit at the pay terminal? So it would function just like debit, and I could get cash back if I wanted?

Has anyone had issues with using their Samsung Pay at locations that have NFC? I was able to use it at most locations on a recently completed trip, but the few places it was rejected seemed to have NFC available as well. It is the only thing I can think of.

So I registered for the 100$ Samsung store promotion after successfully adding my chase card. I provided my imei as instructed, but got a reply saying they could not verify the imei with a valid Samsung pay account. I sent a response to their support side, but it's already been almost a week without a reply. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just simply take the S-Pen out and it's game over! They're like WTH?!
And then sometimes do a "screen off memo" right in front of them. PRICELESS

P.S. And to answer your question. No, it's not wrong to "feel" that way.
Lol. Wow, and yet the top of the phone says, "Samsung" , oh and the button is Not round.
