I just got the Note 5, comparing it with the Nexus 6P.

To be able to tether using my AT&T grand-fathered-in unlimited plan, do I need to root it? I saw some comments in other forums about rooting the Note 5 not being recommended. I still want to be able to use the other features of the phone, like S-Pen, etc. Thanks.

Afaik there is no root option for the att note 5.

The att unlimited data plan doesn't have a hotspot option. If you need unlimited hotspot then you can assume liability of a Verizon unlimited data line and use the mobile hotspot addon.
