I want to attach a (single page) .pdf to a text. The file is in my Note 5 under tools/my files/documents. I want to attach it to a text message but when i use the attachment icon (paperclip) a page full of icons appears but apparently no way to find the right folder and select that .pdf file. Is it because texting won't attach a .pdf? Or is there a way to find the attachment I want to send? If I try to send it by pressing on the file itself, using "MORE", etc. that doesn't link to messaging. It WILL appear as an available attachment in email. Can it be that my only choice would be to save the .pdf as a photo file and send that?

That is correct, MMS (texting with an attachment) doesn't support PDF files, your best bet, as you guessed, is to email it.
To answer the question in the title, you can move files with the "My Files" (yellow folder icon) app.

As another option you can convert the PDF file to an image file such as JPG using a file converter app and then attach the JPG file to a Txt message. Or you may take a picture of the document using your phone or your phone camera using an app like MS Office Lens and Text that image file as an attachment.
