Hey all, my N3 is about to be replaced by Asurion, and they have offered me the option of N4 or N5. So I am just looking for anyone who has experience, of going from N3 to N5 direct? And if there was a preference to which phone they like the best - N3, N4 or N5?
I am hesitant to go to N5, as it has no memory card option, and they refuse to give me the 64 GB N5.
I am posting this in N4 and N5 threads, hopefully, I can get some feedback, thanks.

How much space are you using on your Note 3? Because both the Note 4 and 5 are pretty big upgrades from the 3, but the 5 is still a pretty noticeable upgrade from the 4 aside from the lack of removable storage. Can you pay the difference to get the 64GB?

I went from the N3 straight to the N5, haven't tried the 4.

On the 3, as a user, I carried 2 spare batteries and a 64gb microSD card that I never really used.

The spare batteries were pretty useful, and the one thing I thought would deter me from the 5 (I don't put many movies and stuff on the external memory so it wasn't an issue for me). Turns out, I really didn't need all of those batteries with quick charge after all.

For me, QC is what really makes me forget about removable batteries, I used to fear the phone being below 50% because it would just drain so quickly on AT&T for whatever reason, but on the N5 I don't worry about that kind of stuff at all. The standby is better than the N3 by a lot, and the battery lasts far longer in my experience, with browsing, playing games, watching videos etc. These days I no longer fear it dropping into the 30s or 20s percent, I just let it drop and I throw my phone on the charger for half an hour while doing something else and it's back up to a little more than half (which will last me if I don't use it, and will definitely make it throughout the day w/ ultra power saving mode).

If you want an external memory option, there are certain somewhat bulky chip readers that you can attach to the micro usb port and access it on a small tab-like input device. Again, it also depends on what you want to do with your external memory, if you are storing movies and massive albums, then the 4 seems like the better choice.

General things I've noticed going from the 3 to 5 are:

1) The 5 feels just *perfect*. It feels like they've remedied everything I disliked on the 3 (running-app list lag, general touchwiz lag, pulldown menu hotkey lag).

2) The battery is better than I thought it would be, by a mile. There are some instances where I just use it far too much, and yes that may cause an issue if I'm on a trip somewhere, but all I'd need to do is just bring along a battery case or an external power bank w/ 3 charges and I'll be set.

3) The build and screen; they terrify me. The screen has a very noticeable sharpness to it the moment you look at it. WIth the 3, I thought "oh well it's still 300 something ppi, it's still good," but that sentiment changed when I looked at the 5. Just sharper, better looking, better built and it feels very proper.

4) Fingerprint scanner has made me lazy.

I also moved from note 3 to note 5. You dont have to worry about the removable battery as note 5 as fast charge. Whether 32 gb is enough is a personal choice. As somoneone posted earlier, you can check if you can pay the extra bucks for 64 gb

Get the 5, I've had the Notes 2,3,4,5. The 5 is a big improvement over the 3 and the 4. I upgrade every year and this is the first phone I am hesitant to give up. I have no real complaints about it. The fast charge makes the sealed battery tolerable, especially with the fast charge wireless charger.

I've had all the Notes with the exception of the first. Particularly liked the N3. But there is no comparison to the N5 as pointed out in detail above.

The thinner lighter profile makes it a joy to hold. The fast charging adequately compensates for the lack of a replaceable battery.

And there's no lag. Extraordinarily important.

My Note 4 feels like a brick.

Memory is an issue. I have 64 gigs. But I'm confident that with the cloud and a wifi connection 32 would present no problems.

I went from the 3 to the 5. Nice big jump. Got the 64 gb. Love some offline Spotify, and taking photos and videos. Hardware is obviously the biggest difference, 5 is so nice. Camera quality is much improved. Extra features here and there are great. Software look is different, but not huge. Much faster and rarely any lag. One of the things I love the most is the amount of information shown on the screen in comparison to the 3. Makes it so much more usable. Go for the 5 if you can, my opinion.

My sentiments exactly. Instead of carrying 3 batteries specific to the phone, I'd rather buy a small form factor power bank that has fast charge and can charge all of my mobile devices, with a massive capacity. It's as simple as throwing it into my bag and I'm set.

However with Fast Charge battery packs you don't need a wall plug and the N5 is so superior to the N4 there is simply no comparison.

However with a quick sub 1 minute switch, you can replace your battery and have a 100% charge, not have anything dangling from your device and not worry about charging anything.

The batteries for the Note 4 are small. Smaller than any battery pack you're carrying. Why walk around with something attached to your device? It's cumbersome. No matter how quickly it charges your phone.

I agree that a battery pack can charge all your devices and that it can be convenient in THAT way, but if you're telling me it's more reliable and convenient than a spare battery for your PHONE, you're very mistaken. At that point, it's bias speaking

It IS bias though, from the very start. Hence why I said I would rather buy a small form factor power bank.

I like my Note 5, I like the build, and I have no issues carrying around a single powerbank.

It's not about being cumbersome, or being efficient and going from 0-100 in the replacement of a battery, it's about my enjoying the build and finding a way to easily charge my phone on the go.

Well, I've got a powerbank sitting in my messenger bag, so it's good. Simple as that.

If you could keep the aesthetics of the Note 5 but have a removable battery, would you take it against a Note 5 with a non-removable one?

NO.
After having both options I find that a permanent battery is the better option for me. And wireless charging and fast charging I also much prefer to plugging in anywhere at any time.
Everyone's opinions are just that opinions and as such are biased the individuals background, experience, etc.. Mine, yours, his, hers all biased.

Here is the fallacy though, your preference of having an SD slot and removable battery are all... you know... bias. It is semantics at that point.

It's your bias toward having these features that made you choose it. Why browse the Note 5 forums anyway if you don't have it?

Second, let's not get into hypotheticals. I have never been in a situation where an outlet or powerbank made me say "Gee I really wish I could've carried 5 batteries instead." So your answer is no, I wouldn't want to keep the aesthetics and add a removable battery because those two things simply don't exist on the same platform for the N5. I could wish for samsung to give me free phones every weekend, doesn't make it a reality nor does the notion of it influence my purchase patterns.

So to reiterate with FULL bias and prejudice; I like the N5 and I am happy with the features and how they serve me.

So, Asurion was actually kind enough to send me a Note 4 and 5, so I am actually "test driving" the N5 this week, and do love the streamlined everything...Note 5 battery is better than 3 (not a huge surprise), and the phone is super fast. the only issue I still have is, space, so I am still trying to figure out what to do with my movies, songs, and other work files, but if I keep the N5, I may have to get an OTG adapter for my 64 GB micro sd card, from the Note 3.
I will try out the Note 4 next week...and report back...I have a feeling, if it is close to the same speed as Note 5, I may stick with the 4. Let's see what happens.

So, Asurion was actually kind enough to send me a Note 4 and 5, so I am actually "test driving" the N5 this week, and do love the streamlined everything...Note 5 battery is better than 3 (not a huge surprise), and the phone is super fast. the only issue I still have is, space, so I am still trying to figure out what to do with my movies, songs, and other work files, but if I keep the N5, I may have to get an OTG adapter for my 64 GB micro sd card, from the Note 3.

The much improved (and quite good) fingerprint scanner in the Note 5, and its greater screen pixel density are two features that were readily apparent to me compared to the Note 4. As for storage space, recommend copying the least watched/used movies to a PC or other external storage. I had the Note 4, and while it was an improvement in many ways over the Note 3, I don't miss the N4.

One warning... If you want simultaneous voice and data you must enable advanced calling (not sure of jargon) and some claim it causes problems (battery life? I don't remember the problem).

If you enable that option and drive from a lte zone to a 3G zone (which I do every day) if you are on the phone the call is dropped.

If you are in a 3G zone simultaneous voice and data does not work at all. These things are of no consequence if you are never out of 4G range.

Didn't even make it to the N4, loved N5 so much that I stayed. I did the smart switch from 3to5 and have about 4 Gigs leftover, and once I clean up some of the pics and vids, I may end up with more space. I did order an OTG card, so that I can use my 64GB Class 10 card on the phone, if needed.
