Try finding Google Services on the Application Manager and clear cache. If that doesn't help, uninstall updates for that app and reboot (I suggest you're fully charged for this, since after reboot the phone will automatically begin re-downloading and re-installing Google Services' updates; also be on WiFi if you're on a metered connection, although the download shouldn't be that intensive).

Same problem here. I will try what SpookDroid suggested and report back.

Can this be disabled or is it important?

You need it. Your phone will not work correctly without this.

Yup, your phone uses Google Services for a lot of things, from Google Account management to location services (and even Google Now's magic), so disabling that basically disables anything Google on your phone, including the Play Store.

"Google Services" includes a lot of what used to be called "Linux" - IOW, the phone itself. But note that it's using about 30% of 32% - or about .09% of the battery - , and that's not a lot. The percentages in the second graph are percentages of total battery usage", not percentages of total battery.

Try disabling location history. I was facing the same issues and after disabling I'm not facing the issue

While that works, that reduces the value of Google Now.

Thanks for your response. I went into application manager and went to Google services but there was no option to clear cache.

May not be exactly the same problem as I have experienced rapid and sudden drain that appears to be caused by Google Services, or one of the processes that it uses.

I had a similar issue and I tracked mine down to the T-Mobile app.

Factory reset if you haven't done so already. I know it's a pain but it invariably works for me.

I didn't find any difference to Google now. I didn't mean to disable location. But Google also has a more intrusive location history tracking which consumes more battery.

If you disable location, Google Now will no longer be able to track your location history, which means you won't get timely cards for common commutes at the right time, or get suggestions when you're near a place you go to often or have searched for. It will keep the ones it has in history for a while (like home/work/home) but it'll eventually lose accuracy for lack of newer data.
