Always on display isn't working on mine. Looks like I'll be heading to T-Mobile in the morning for an exchange.
Looks like a couple people got lemons. This is one good thing about buying in person you can make sure it works before you leave when they switch the sim card. I ordered and it was a very painless process. A lot better than standing for hours at the store.
I wouldn't consider the Always on Display being a lemon issue as its not hardware related. I'm guessing people aren't turning on the feature, installing software that conflicts with it, etc.
Mia_xoxo, Did you go in settings and make sure Always on Display is turned on? Are you using TouchWiz, or did you install a different launcher? Did you install apps before you tried it, or try it with everything still at factory settings?
Standby battery drain. Also, the slight lag when switching apps. I am coming from 3 months on an iPhone SE and that this is very zippy while the Note is not. But I love the Note overall, especially the camera.
You know if you're using the camera its going to drain the battery, right?
Just bought mine today. I just want to preface this post by saying I think it's a really great phone overall. But it's not perfect:
- It's an absolute fingerprint magnet. The back constantly looks 'dirty' with fingerprints.
- Samsung's Touchwiz software I have to say feels quite slow when compared to the HTC 10 or Nexus 6P. Seems to have delay when opening an app or going back to the home screen. Also notice stuttering when swiping across screens, pulling down the notification bar, and just generally navigating through the UI. It's not big or distracting, but it's just not as fast as the HTC 10 for me.
- The speaker is quite poor. Sounds muted, as if someone is covering the speaker with something.
- I don't like how there are so many duplicate Google and Samsung applications. The phone looks bloated with two sets of apps: 'Calendar' 'Calendar', 'Clock', 'Clock', 'Gallery', 'Photos', 'Messenger', 'Messages' etc.
- I don't like that I have to create a Samsung account if I want to use any of the Samsung stuff. I just want to download a different theme....don't see why I need to sign up to a Samsung account....
Isn't
every phone a "fingerprint" magnet. It seems like every
review criticizes phones and other glossy objects as fingerprint magnets. Did you have clean hands before you fingered it?
Are you going with a case - if so then it shouldn't be an issue.
Have you put the phone in developer mode and tried changing the animation options (such as disabling them) to see if that gets rid of the delay you are seeing?
The speaker issue was a given before the phone even came out, so I'll concede that point to you. Wonder if any manufacturers have made speaker cases (where speakers are built into the case) as that could work around the problem if you don't want to go the wireless headphone/speaker route. Have you messed with some of the sound settings? (Someone earlier in the thread reported that made it slightly better).
You can disable the duplicate applications, so that is only a temporary issue, right?
I agree that having to make a Samsung account just to do simple things like change themes is annoying, but once you've done that once at least its done and over with.
I'm switching from an HTC M8 (think I recall you mentioning you were using one a couple of years ago), and have been anticipating the slower TouchWiz system and lower quality speaker since before I ordered the system and been trying to plot possible solutions around them.
No developer settings? I am on the Verizon variant.
I want to turn off animations.
Did you go into about, and tap on the build number a bunch of times (6 or 7 if I recall correctly) to turn on developer mode?
