Was there a $35 sales freeze fee for them telling you that?

They wouldn't sell me one this morning at 10:00 Eastern but that was, they claim, because I just wanted the phone outright and not on a upgrade/new sale/contract extension/moneymaker/quota filler (ok the last few of those were not in the official reason why!)

That said, they had plenty in stock in the corporate stores.

Just looked online, nothing about a freeze there. Go online, buy it and do in store pick up. Pick the store that told you that so you get satisfaction of proving them wrong.

Are you paying full retail for it? Sounds like a Verizon store going for commission of contract to me, just an idea. They are known to do that, they did that to me one time, said they had none if those phones when I heard the sales guy tell people next to me that they still had 15 in the back room, they were holding them for the contracts.

I was greeted at the store door. Told him I wanted to purchase a note 7. He said I couldn't because they put a freeze on sales a half hour before I got there. It is a hour to the store from my house. Buggers

I was told at Verizon that if you have a 2 year contract and you want to purchase a new phone before you're eligible to upgrade, you would have to add a new line in order to purchase a phone through them. Otherwise, you would have to buy the phone unactivated from a place like Best Buy and they can activate it for you.

My wife just called the local corporate store in Green Bay, WI to see if they had any in stock. Not only did they put one on hold for her (running low on that color), but the rep said it's about $930 taxes and all to buy outright. No mention of a sales freeze. I'm about off work, so I'll report back if we were successful or not.

That's exactly what I did. Went across the street and bought the Note 7 in Blue and got a free GearS2 as well. Was in and out in 10 mins as my outright purchase got to bypass all those waiting to do contacts and activations at the Best Buy counters

My local store was fine letting us purchase at full retail. The rep did say it would mean an extra $40 activation charge and doing DPP would wave that charge. So we took his suggestion to do DPP to avoid the charge, then will go in to pay it off in a few months (to avoid the activation charge being added from paying off too soon).

The last time I went into a store to buy a phone outright the guy said that they have to activate it there or no deal. I walked out and drove to best buy where they weren't as discriminatory against my money.

No. You can buy for full price then contact your carrier to request the unlock code per each of their ridiculous policies, none of which align. I called att and insisted i get it on the phone and they did do it. Have a SIM for another carrier in there phone so you can enter the code right away and make sure it works. Otherwise there are usually forms to submit and wait a couple days if you don't need immediately.

At my local T- mobile, it was just the opposite: They refuse to sell if it's an upgrade, they sell them only to new activations. Fortunately, I got mine from an eBay dealer.

Makes sense. I used to work at Radioshack and they wouldn't sell phones outright (not policy) But because they wanted the bonus of the attached plan.

Once I even sold one guy 4 prepaid phones without activation. I got In trouble. Not policy but because store won't get the commission.

I had a very opposite experience. I went in to a corp. store about 3:00pm. Checked in and said I wanted a Note 7 in Blue. The clerk offered to check stock and came back and told me they had more than people in front of me. When my turn came they had all ready pulled the phone and after seeing that I was on month to month as my last 2 year data contract was up and that I didn't owe anything on any phone the sold me the phone without having to upgrade my old plan and without having to have another 2 year data plan contract. Walked out with my activated phone, waver of connect charge, and my old plan lower monthly equipment charge. It was such a drastic change from all of my years of dealing with Verizon store employees I was convinced I had walked into the Twilight Zone
