Maybe it didn't recognize your fingerprint. Did you try it again? I know on my note 5 if i didn't do the fingerprint just right it would make me do pin. I haven't played with the fingerprints on note 7 except to set it up lol. I use iris scanner mostly.

When did it happen? If you reboot your phone for example you have to use the pin before you can use fingerprint again.

Don't remember when exactly it started. Sometimes if I lock the screen while in an app it won't happen, maybe 33% of the tume it'll accept my fp.

From what you say here, I believe the reason is what it was Jewels81 explained, it shows up as the failsafe security mechanism because it does not accept the fp. There's not much to do about it, I think.

Ok, tried removing irises and fingerprints. Then re-added irises.

    Now, this ...... PIN Required-1472642891239.jpg

True, it sounds like too much of a coincidence that it has troubles recognizing finger prints and iris. It is probably worth it talking to Samsung about it, if it is a faulty unit, you should get it fixed (or a new phone), otherwise you will have reported a bug...

I believe that I discovered the culprit.

My Power toggles app. With this widget, if I lock the screen I cannot unlock it with iris or fingerprint. If I lock normally, I can.

Great! Glad you could fix it. Thanks for letting us know.

That's perfectly normal. Android security policy prevents an app to lock the screen and then spoof the fp.
If the system finds out an app or an overlay locked the screen then asks for back up pin instead of the fingerprint.
There's no way to use fingerprint or iris to unlock the phone with an app that locks the screen via software.
Oh well there is actually a way. There should be an app which doesn't lock the screen but dims it while setting timeout to a minimum. This way the screen would lock "naturally" and the security policy measures wouldn't apply.

That's logical. I'm just glad that it's resolved.
