He's not giving advice, it's his own opinion. Are people not allowed to have opinions on the Internet?

Sure, but just having an opinion doesn't make your opinion correct or intelligent. Statistically, his opinion is justified. It's incredibly unlikely you'll be the 36th person with an exploded phone. But that's no consolation to the person who actually is the 36th. Especially if that malfunction causes a fire and hurts them. Playing it safe here isn't just prudent, it's the only sane option given the hassle free and cost free replacement option. The great thing about opinions is that everyone has them. Smart people have them and morons have them too. Opinions have no intrinsic value - they are merely noise unless backed up with some sort of insight or valid perspective. I have no idea who flossy carter is, but my impression based on their stance on this is not positive.

The only advice he gave was that, if you're nervous about it but want to keep it, then just make sure you don't use the fast charger overnight and that you only use correct cables.

Did Samsung say that was a sure fire way to avoid the issue?

Didn't think so. Having an opinion is one thing, but offering up actual advice and supposed ways to avoid the issue is misleading and could lead to someone getting hurt.
