The build date is the Android Firmware build date. The manufacture date is the hardware. Two separate items.

They probably took back the 1.5MM units that were in the wild but not yet sold and put them into two piles; 1) batteries OK, 2) batteries not OK. Then they put a new sticker on pile #1 and shipped them right back out.
Bingo, I believe we have a winner here.

The corrected phone design and box manufacturing went ahead pronto, while the people deciding how to identify "New" phones were still undecided. Once they decided, the newly manufactured phone (boxes) had the additional label applied.

My guess would be because those particular phones were already manufactured and ready to go without the suspect battery. So in order to ease everyone's minds and make it easy to spot the safe Note 7s they came up with the "black square" label and just slapped it over the old one.
    This. Times a million.

My box doesn't have a double sticker. App info says made in Korea on 9/12/2016

That's the obvious answer. I don't know why some people suspect the worst. Samsung knew which ones were bad as soon as this was blowing up. Hiweve7, the way of marking the "V2" devices probably wasn't known at that time.

It's what you see in the phone info app when you go to the refurb check menu option. Mine says "Congratulations! Your phone is original" message too...

Thanks, just found it and mine also says original.
I don't think Samsung would mark the phones as refurbished as they are pushing them off as brand new.
I believe that they are pulling a sneaky battery switch though. Why the double labels with same IMEI's ?
Mine as well. What an awesome app.

The phone I got looks and smells 100% new, works perfectly, exceptional battery life, but these double labels on the box seem mighty fishy to me.

I would go exchange it. There's always the thought in the back of your head of having a refurbished phone.

If you are this concerned about it then like someone else said I guess you might want to just go return it. As for me, I don't really care if it's refurbished or not, I've had enough of this and I'm good with my potentially new possibly "refurbished" note 7 now.

I agree. Sure don't want to mess with exchange thing again! We love our Note 7's and that's all we need.

I only have the one label on my box(VZW SIlver) but my phone was built a little later than some others(the 12th) so the plan was probably in full swing for the recall process. I initially thought the build date was the 17th but that's the android firmware date.

To me, if a phone is new, still in the factory, never sold and they open it and do a "Safety Mod" I DO NOT consider that a Refurb! That's still a new phone to me. A refurbished phone is one of these S7s that has been an interim phone for people, that gets cleaned up and repackaged!
