We had to return our Note S7 due to the recall, replaced it with an S7 Edge. Is there any talk of Samsung letting us go to the Note 8 when it's released, without having to pay a penalty for our service provider contract?

I really doubt if you'll see that happening. I did not have the Note 7 but it was my impression Samsung compensated those owners when they had to turn in the phone. That may or may not be accurate on my part. As you're dealing with a carrier, I doubt there would be any kind of agreement between them and Samsung, that would be a very big can of worms. I would hope your carrier would be willing to work with you if you go with the Note 8.

As far as Samsung is concerned, they've done what they agreed to do already! I've read it in many places and my AT&T Rep stated the same back when I turned in my Replacement Note 7. You won't see any deals from Samsung... Carriers? - now that's another question all together, but I still doubt it. The Note 7 has been gone too long and they all feel that they did their part, whether we do or not!!!

Actually I've read they are selling refurnished Note 7s overseas in a limited market, but can't remember which country.

They were talking about getting a price break on a Note 8 by turning in their S7 or S7 Edge phones! That's what my response above was aimed at!

They have "met their commitments", but it would be nice of them to at least say, "hey, we know you had the best phone on the planet and had to return said phone for a good phone, so why don't we wave the 2 years you will have with this phone you really didn't want for the new Note 8 when it comes out." That would be nice........

I'd say, if you hold your breath for that, you'll probably turn blue rather quickly... just sayin'!

    But they don't have to.

And you can always buy a phone with no penalty.

Verizon gave me a full refund, a $25 credit on my bill and my account still has a free upgrade (since I elected to purchase my own device when I turned in my Note 7). 😉

Would only be up to Samsung if you have an unlocked phone, if your phone has a payment plan or contract with your carrier it is up to them.

Not sure if Verizon still does it, but when I got my S7 last year it and the iPhone could both be traded in at 50% payoff to get the new phone instead of paying for 100% of it like other phones.

Verizon still does that for their Galaxy S and iPhones, not sure if they do it with any of their other phones.
