I noticed this on the galaxy s8 as well, why is Samsung underclocking the snapdragon 835 down to 2.35ghz instead of 2.45ghz like other manufactures are clocking it up to which is its rated speed? Seems to run fine at its rated max speed on other phones. Has anyone figured the reasoning out?

Could be a number of reasons. My guess is that the processors are a lower bin compared to others in the batch. They might be less expensive.

More like the engineers made a choice that they were comfortable with balancing performance, heat, and battery life.

Is there a max performance option in the settings (the S7 has it)? That might be something. They're giving you settings they're comfortable with.

Samsung make them, doubt they'd supply themselves with lower bin.

This is definitely for battery life.

Doubtful, Samsung manufactures the chip, I'm sure they kept the best for themselves. Gotta be for battery life.

I would say based on the performance of the S8 and my limited time with an N8 at my local BB it doesn't matter. I think they run just fine. As already stated, I agree that Samsung made a choice on this processor speed cap.

Cheers,
