Just got my note 8 and was wondering if I can just take my sd card from my s8+and swap it in or should I reformat it and add everything manually? Thanks.

You should be able to just put it in the Note 8. All your pictures, music and whatever else you have on there will show up on the Note 8.

As long as you don't have apps installed on the card

I had a problem with my Note 3's card. The Note 8 said it was corrupted and wanted to format it
Of course, I didn't and put the card back into the Note 3, where it still worked well.

Kind of similar question, so I'll piggyback:

I dug out my 256 card (unused) from last year, and want to go ahead and transfer everything on my current SD card to that. Should just be photos and music.

What's the best way to go about it? Drag and drop on a computer folder?

Make sure it's not encrypted. If it is you'll have to reformat it. You can always unencrypt it on the old phone as well.

That's the most reliable way. Insert the current SD card into your computer, and copy all of the folders/files to your computer's hard drive. Then insert the 256 GB card, and copy that information over to the card.

Me too. I just had to decrypt it first.

I've never done that and I've switched cards between several phones and they always work.

I only did it as I know app data gets stored on the SD card somehow and just wanted to make sure that once I had my phone set up with the SD card in, it was all set with only my photos, videos, and music on the SD card

Best to copy & paste (if you do a move and something happens you risk loosing data).
Different ways to access the SD cards will affect the time it takes to copy the data between card/pc.

    Cheers,
