I’ve read a few threads on here about the FPS.
But, I am curious what method to unlock the device are you using?

I bought a Note 8 this evening, and thus far FPS is a little annoying. Then again, I’m coming from an iPhone 7 Plus (Touch ID).

I have both fingerprint and Iris setup. I use Iris the most, it even works with my glasses.

I have FPS and facial recognition set up, but I also have my phone set to remain unlocked as long as it's connected to my Gear S3 watch. I don't think I've had to actually unlock my phone since I got it.

Definitely the location of the scanner itself isn't as bad to me as others say I came from an 6s plus

Fingerprint. Got used to it after a day. The Spigen case I have helps quite a bit too.

Alternatively, I use an iris scan. It somehow works better here than on the Note7

This right here. Iris the majority of the time and it's really fast. I too wear glasses. FPS for the rest of the time

FPS 90 percent of the time, also have the iris scanner set up for back up.

of course use the pattern when i restart the phone, which to me defeats the purpose of biometric security. (having to use that before using biometric, someone who sees the pattern simply restarts the phone.)

Iris primarily then FPS. Been only using it full time for last two days so we'll see if that changes.

If I think about it, Iris primarily because I have been keeping my phone face up all the time. It's faster to pick up the phone to eye level and I've got my thumb going right to the home button out of habit I guess than to find and bring your finger to the FPS.

By the time I bring the phone up to read level after pressing the home button, it's immediately read and has my home screen up. Iris has been working that fast for me.

Iris has worked surprisingly well for me... In light, in the dark, laying in bed half awake with eyes half open, glasses on/off... I'm impressed. I disabled the need for swipe before it scans so I find that if I bring up the phone to book level focusing on the top of the phone as if I am reading the top header and press the home button, it pretty much opens instantly.

FPS does work very well and fast... but the location is just the worst. I hate having to position my hand half way up the phone to be able to comfortably reach the FPS with my index finger. And with right hold, my middle finger naturally rests where the Bixby button is to get a firm hold and have already accidentally pressed it while trying to press the FPS. Left hand too can accidentally press the power button when getting a good grip to use the FPS. The buttons are just in bad locations. I can't wait for the Bixby update for AT&T to kill that button. Long hold I don't mind keeping for Bixby.

When I grab my phone out of my front pocket, I am using iris scan because I naturally rest the bottom of phone on my palm as I take the phone out of my pocket, so positioning the thumb at the home button as I pull out of pocket bring it to unlock the moment it gets to read level is faster.

Now as I am writing this I do realize if I lay the phone face down, as I am reaching for the phone, I can focus on getting my index finger on the sensor first, then get my other fingers to grasp the phone and be able to get an instant unlock by the time I have a full grasp on the phone. So I may try resting the phone face down more... But then I can't see the time or any notifications on the AOD.

    First world problems lol.

Loving the tips thus far. Sounds like a lot of people use the Iris and FPS. I like the FPS, used to it from iOS. Seems like I need to use it more to get used to it.

I use the iris and fps, but I also have smart lock enabled so as long the phone is on me or connected to one of my devices or I'm home I just have to hard press the home button.

I use facial recognition and FPS. I'm a woman with small hands and I have no issues using FPS. I reach it easily and don't have any issues with accidentally pressing any side buttons. I registered both index fingers.

Hmm, I might have to look at the 'smart lock' feature. I guess my real concern when it comes to security, is if the device isn't on or neat me...

Curious, does anyone use 'smart lock' and Samsung Pay? If so, any issues when trying to use it?

I use iris and fingerprint with a pin. Iris works great even when I'm wearing my glasses, contacts and sunglasses. Never fails. The fingerprint sensor is fast too!
