HELP: Assigning different ringtones to different contacts

Will someone explain to me like I'm 5 on how to assign different ringtones to different contacts for the Note 8?

Every time I try it changes my default ringtone.

when you go into the contact and assign the ringtone you have to save contact again up in the top right corner

Thank you but that is what I'm doing and it changes my default ringtone.

is the ringtone and contact you try to use saved on your device?
it works for me but I have allowed device storage

You can created your ringtone using a ringtone maker.
Then you just assign it to the specific contact you want to. Edit then save.

ok I was able to figure it out but when I set the ringtone I want, I get the word add and I am unable to. it takes me to a section where I can select Cloud for Verizon, Samsung Music, among other things... what am I not doing right
