I've always just used the Gmail app but was wondering if there is any advantage to the Samsung Email app on the phone? Anyone use it for Gmail and prefer it to the Gmail app?

Good question, I've never used the stock email app on android so I too am interested in hearing others opinions. FWIW I use Google Inbox, to me it's a very clean and intuitive interface.

I used to use the Gmail app for my Gmail accounts and exchange account. Gmail was hit or miss with notifications for my Gmail account. Sometimes they would come in hours after the mail arrived. On the Samsung app, it's been instant every single time.

I also prefer the way the Samsung app stores all my exchange emails on the phone and I don't have to wait for them to load. I reference 2 and 3 year old emails constantly for customers and Gmail takes way to long to search back that far.

I use Aqua Mail. I prefer it over either of the two mentioned

I've been using Maildroid for a long time. This thread actually prompted me to try the stock email app on my Note 8.

I tested push email times between the stock app and Maildroid app with both my Outlook and Gmail accounts and they both receive messages immediately.

After playing with the stock app I've decided to switch to it! I haven't used a stock email app in over five years, but this works!

This Note 8 stock email app is set up very well, and while it doesn't have all the customizations of other apps, it does what I need and I like the layout.

I will be interesting to see over time how much of a difference in battery usage there will be.

I'm shocked, but my vote right now is for the stock app.

I use the Blackberry Hub. I have tried the Samsung email app but when I open it up it seems to take some time to load. I don't know if it's because I have 4 emails and I set them to all load.

The other app I have tried is the Outlook for Android. Not bad at all.

Gmail, It's OK but do not like that I cannot turn conversation mode off even after I unchecked it.

Stock email theme changes when you apply a theme to your phone from the Samsung app store. I've been using stock email for a few months now. I came back from Google Inbox. The simplicity and sequential order of managing the in box of stock is refreshing. Also with Samsung Gear I think stock works best.

Just the menus. But the emails themselves remain white. If you want them black, the best options AFAIK are Bluemail and Aquamail.

That's odd, it's one of the only stock apps that did not change, when I applied a new theme.

I prefer the native app vs. Gmail...

    1. I can paste screenshots directly in the body of the email (Gmail won't do this. You have to attach the pic from Gallery, extra steps when I just wanna paste and be done).

    2. You can format the heck out of the native email app. Font color, bold, etc.

    3. Native app has an undo/redo button.

    4. Anything you do in the native email app (if it's a gmail account) is automatically done when you open Gmail. Starred emails, sent messages show up in Gmail also.

    5. I hate, I mean I really hate how Gmail strings the conversation together. It makes it SO confusing trying to find a part of an email conversation. I want them all separate but that's just me. I know there is a setting in Gmail but I did this and it still groups the conversation together. It's really confusing for me...I don't know why?

Samsung's email app is better than Gmail for me especially on the Note 8. When using the spen you can just hover over the emails without opening them to read the content. And Gmail still cannot select all to delete! I can't stand having to tap all 500 of my emails just to delete them..

After reading this thread I may give the stock email app a try. I used to always use Google Inbox but for the past few months been using the Gmail app because Google has been slacking at keeping Inbox up to date. Not even sure why they even have two. I believe at one point they were supposed to migrate over to Inbox but Ib don't believe this to be the case.

Actually there are several themes that change backgrounds to black or dark colors. I especially like the one named "Metalic Dark TouchWiz".
