It seems my Galaxy Note 8 Fingerprint Scan is draining the battery. I have had it for a month and get exactly one day before a charge. This morning I added Fingerprint and at exactly 12 hours the battery is 5%.

Do you touch it a lot? The FPS isn't active unless something conductive is touching it. I never noticed any difference in battery life with or without (long story, but had to live without FPS for a couple days).

Yes, I guess I access it a lot. It is such a drastic change though, I cant really charge it mid day.

Have you looked at your battery usage in the settings menu to see what is actually using your battery? It's highly unlikely that it's the fingerprint scanner draining your battery.

Nothing else has changed and I get half as much battery life.

If you turn it back off, does your battery go back to normal?

I think there has to be something else. I use my FPS and I easily get a day and 6 plus hours of screen time.

My Norton Security was at the top of the list with 1.8% usage. So I clicked it and it dissapeared. Not sure what that did.

I use Bitdefender. Doesn't come up on my usage radar at all. Something wrong there with yours showing at top of list.

Stop using it and go to another method for security like a four digit pin. That's what I did and I have no battery drain.

I would expect that Android System would be at the top of the list if the fingerprint scanner was causing the problem.

I have never used antivirus software on any phone so I don't know what impact they should or should not have. If that is the issue, my first step would be to really consider why you think you need that software on your phone.

That. If the FPS was the problem, the OS would show up top (not the only reason why it would, but if that were the culprit, that would be a good place to start looking). Also, turning your screen on and typing a password takes way more energy out of your battery than swiping your finger on the FPS. If your usage remains the same, you shouldn't be seeing a battery drop from using FPS.

Well since I clicked on the Norton that was on the top of list, the battery is back to normal. Why the Fingerprint affected the Norton that day is a mystery. Thanks for all the help.

It wasn't the fingerprint reader. You are connecting two dots that are not connected.

    Here are 2 dots:

    I added Thumbprint Reader.

My battery life was cut in half immediately.

I connect them until proven otherwise. Apparently the Norton had something to do with it also, so there is another dot.

Lol. I understand how you’re thinking. I handle problems the same way.

Based on the factors that you have presented, I can tell you with a relatively high level of certainty that the issue is not the fingerprint scanner. I can’t firmly tell you it’s Norton, but that would be my lead suspect at this point. I would definitely consider why you think you need that app. I hope you get it worked out.

I love Norton, I have it on all my devices. Since I clicked on it in the Battery Usage section, it is back to normal and hasn't showed back up as a High Usage item. Before I added Fingerprint, this never happened in the month I have had the phone. Connect the dots, why not?

Hopefully it settles down for you and it’s smooth from now on.

I've had every Note since the Note 2 and I still learn new things all the time. It just does so much. If you don't take the time to learn, you are really doing yourself a disservice. Enjoy!
