You might have heard of the Google Pixel 2 and how highly rated its camera is. That's mostly down to Google's HDR+ post-processing using computational photography.

And you might have heard that it has been ported to work on many recent devices powered by a Snapdragon SoC, but my Exynos Note8 has been out in the cold until last month where someone released an HDR+ app which also had a working portrait mode.

I installed it and here are some photos

For the most part, I preferred its output over the Samsung's camera output. It has significantly boosted dynamic range, better colors in the sense that it doesn't go overboard and more detail retained due to less heavy-handed NR through conventional means.

It's not perfect though. ZSL doesn't work, it is slow to capture and process and tap to focus is useless.

    Still, it is pretty great

I've been using the Google camera ports since last year when I added the first versions to my V20. They're very useful when you want a good point and shoot option without fiddling with manual settings or in challenging lighting situations.

The various versions can be found here. I personally use the most recent versions from developer cstark27 (Snapdragon)

Excellent post. Used the port awhile back but it was jot very good. Glad to see that it has gone a long way. Will try it for the next few days.

What are everyone thought? How do the pictures compared to the Samsung variant.

Have you tried any other version made by other dev?

I pretty much use the Google version as my main camera. The dynamic range just outpaces the stock camera especially in auto mode. Now if you have the patience and know how to use the manual mode of the stock camera then its a toss up. I've used several of developr B_S_G's versions and then started using Cstark's which were developed initially for the dual cameras of the V20/V30. If you're running Exynos then try miniuser123's versions.
