Note 8 isn't connecting to TV

Hi we are trying to hook my NOTE 8 to the TV, via USB-C to HDMI but it doesn't do anything, it's driving us nuts. We have checked out all the videos online and all they do is plug it in. First we used the USB-C which did nothing, so the guy at the optus shop told us to just get a USB to HDMI and use the little adapter that comes with your phone and well that didn't work either. We can't pick up TV where we are but I can get it on the phone. If anyone has any idea's it would be appreciated.

Have you made sure the adapter you got is compatible with the Note 8? not all adapters are! All will require you to power the adapter, so you'll need a charger on hand. Depending on the brand (if they are the cheap ones) you might need to connect in a specific sequence, like charger first, HDMI second, phone third or something like that.

Also be careful... Incompatible dongles or very cheap ones might damage your phone.
